Ooh! Is it a bird, is it a plane? No it's a train made by a Northerner that doesn't give a shite about what he does, he just rushes it! (Only joking of course, your trains are fab!).

"Pretendolino" set, is with a DVT, and it's usually a class 90 hauling it, not a 91.class318fan wrote:yay, are you going to be doing the pretendolino or is that the class 82 DVT?

DVT's do not have a class. They are trailers... You either get a Mark 3 or a Mark 4. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Driving_Van_Trailerclass318fan wrote:yay, are you going to be doing the pretendolino or is that the class 82 DVT?

Re: Pioneer Trains development thread
Looks brilliant, also seen the FGW HST pic as well, which also looks awesome
Re: Pioneer Trains development thread
Actually, DVTs do have a class, they are designated Class 82, the 82/1 being the Mark 3 variant and the 82/2 being the Mark 4 variant. Plus the other 82/3 wandering around now on the Chiltern line.
Great 180 Ben.

Re: Pioneer Trains development thread
No, and employing that methodology, the Mk3b BFOs on the FGW Sleeper are Class 17/1 and therefore one of these:
Ummmm......
DVTs are numbered in the coaching stock sequence in the 82XXX series, which lies within the Non Passenger-Carrying coaching stock sequence (used for full-brakes, Parcels vans/GUVs/TPOs and full kitchens), with each of the three varieties numbered in a different hundred for clarity. They are not, never have been, and never can be Class 82 because they can't move unless something else shoves them. All in all, a bit of a drawback for a locomotive.
There is occasionally some confusion because of some limited renumbering of Mk1 BGs from 920XX to 929XX (class 92s introduced) and a few Class 101 vehicles (then the Class 59/1s arrived). This was undertaken because it was decided that, while it was possible to have a locomotive, a vehicle in an MU set, and an item of coaching stock with the same running number, the situation was best avoided and as various fleets were thinned out, the few cases where there were overlaps were attended too. It never created the issue people thought it might, so I was told, due to the way a consist created up on TOPS.
All bear a TOPS code of NZA in the coaching-stock sequence:
N- Non-Passenger Carrying
Z- Specific to the type- they stuck these at the end
A- Air Brake only
there are subsequent parts to that code identifying individual varieties.
So there you go. It's a souped-up brake van.

It's a 45 ton bike shed, as one railwayman put it. It hits cows well as well.
When the Mk3 DVT's were introduced, there was still some Class 82's around (a la 82008), hence they were 821XX

Re: Pioneer Trains development thread
I remember seeing the Royal Mail chaps loading one at Preston, not long after they started using them (as opposed to towing thwn both ways) and he was telling his chums they'd converted some of these new ones to run off batteries. Hmm, Glasgow-Euston powered by battery? Why has no-one thought of that since?
I never did get to see the Euston ECS locos, but i did see 83009 during it's transformer phase at Longsight. I do remember the loud whine that 81s used to make though- i lived in Lancaster on the opposite side of town, and they used to sound cracking on a summer night.

Umm... Do I get it right you still don't use UIC-numbers for vehicles in the UK? Fascinating...

Re: Pioneer Trains development thread
European numbers? How very dare you! Do you know know that numbers were invented in this country?
There keeps being mutterings about applying them, and what format they need to take, but not much seems to have happened. I suppose, apart from the specific routes and trains that use the tunnel, stuff stays over here. Even Class 92s don't work past The Other End Of The Tunnel.
I think the number ranges may be allocated but they just don't stick all the supernumerary digits on.

Nice, the only thing I would add would probably be a shadow under the train...
