OpenBVE does not start (stopped working)

OpenBVE does not start at all, it gives "Program stopped working" error message.
In Details, you can read "System.TypeLoadException". Googling this error suggests there is a problem in MS .NET Framework, but I was not able to repair it (see below).

Windows 7 Pro SP1
MS .NET Framework 4.6.2
OpenBVE 1.8.3.2
- addons in %APPDATA%\openBVE\LegacyContent\
- mackoy's Keisei-Chiba line installed

I am aware the recommended .NET version is 4.6.1, but it could not be installed (no longer supported, invalid certificate).

What I tried:
- running in Win XP compatibility mode,
- running as admin,
- both of the above,
- reinstalling .NET Framework,
- repairing .NET Framework with NetFxRepairTool,
- reinstalling OpenBVE,
...with no change.

Any idea what's wrong?

I'd try the most recent .Net version before anything else, which is 4.8

The error you're seeing is because it can't load *something*, but it's not saying what (typical....)

Windows 7 is getting a little old now mind, and is officially out of support
