How to start engine in openBVE?
Newbie here.
Have got openBVE running ok on a Linux system.
Have downloaded a couple of diesel engines from http://bvetmd.org.uk/ and they load up fine. But I just can not find a key to start the engines.
Thanks.

The standard key setting for the reverser is F and V. Up and Down steer the camera in standard key setting.
Much depends on the vehicle's plugin. The standard procedure under standard settings though would be:
- "F" for reverser forward ("V" for reverser back by one setting)
- "," for releasing brakes ("." for applying them, "/" for EB)
- "Z" for increasing power ("A" for decreasing power)

Re: How to start engine in openBVE?
Sadly, you're going to have issues with these. They use the UKDT.dll plugin to provide traction modelling, which is Windows only.
I'm not entirely certain, but I thought that OpenBVE ought to have applied a default configuration when the plugin is not available due to OS restrictions. Try shifting to forwards and applying some power- Sounds and some cab animations *may* not work, but I think you'll start moving.

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the replies.
The default EMU that is installed with the Linux version uses ATS, which I'm guessing is Auto Train Start? And some of the other locos I have tried out do the same.
But as far as I can tell, the '2' key just doesn't do anything on the Linux version - where do the plugins go? I've read about various plugins but I can't see a place for them in this directory structure; if indeed they work anyway in Linux.
Chris - I'll have a go at your suggestions and see what happens. Annoyingly, everything else seems to work fine - just can't get her started!

Japan's Automatic Train Stop. It simply means that you're running in Linux just with Mono Framework, which the environment does not support Win32 DLL like that "UKDT.dll".
Therefore, the instruction for operating train with default configuration should be used (like leezer3 says).
Re: How to start engine in openBVE?
I decided that it was maybe wise to start with a fresh installation, as it had all been a bit piecemeal up to now.
So I have followed the instructions on this website to make a new installation:
http://railsimroutes.net/openbve/openbve_ubuntu_2.php
and just about everything is fine; all train functions are working. Yipee.
My only problem now is the the BR signals are missing from the route - just empty space, so will need to look into that now.
But at least I can drive the train!

BR Signals:
http://www.bvecornwall.co.uk/downloads/BRSigs.7z
Creating a proper page for these is on the list of things I haven't got round to (They're not mine, but the original home has vanished....), but this is both the color light variants. If you find you need the semaphores, I've got these too, along with an unfinished set of fully 3D drop-in replacements I haven't got as far as dealing with yet :s
Extract these into your OpenBVE_Content\Railway\Object\ folder
Depending on your exact graphics card, you may see some transparencies missing or producing odd results; Let us know if that's the case, and I can go ferreting out the older threads on this topic. (IIRC the 'fix' was to remove the signal glows, but I'm by no means certain)
(Unless Ubuntu has done something really funky, I'm pretty sure you're just running the trains with the default config, but they're working!)
Cheers

I think he/she was driving a train with newer "UkTrainSys.dll" which is a .NET DLL (like Anthony Bowden's Class 323 for oB), and it's the reason why he/she can let all the functions on train working.
I bet he/she can't do so for "UKDT.dll" nor "OS_ATS.dll".
Re: How to start engine in openBVE?
Hi Chris,
Thanks for that. I have installed these files.
The signals are now present visually, but the AWS isn't working correctly. I get the chime ok on a green light but nothing on any other aspect. I can even run a red light without stopping.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Ralph

Not sure TBQH
If you post the exact route and train you're using then I can check.
You may find that the route hasn't implemented AWS at all or badly, there are certainly those for which this is the case.
And yeah, I forgot about UKTrainsys!

I have just one route and one train installed at the moment, from this webpage:

Re: How to start engine in openBVE?
Dunno, AWS *should* be working with those, along with all the cab features.
Check you've installed the 3D cab and OpenBVE addon file (Second download link), and that you're launching an OpenBVE routefile, but further than that someone would need to test on Linux.
Depending on what I've got going on over the next few days, I may knock up a VM and do some testing from this end, but I haven't got any Linux desktop boxes. (Only a headless fileserver!)
Cheers
