OpenBVE 1.4.3
It is certainly not my role to announce this, however as I see there have been no mentioning of it on this board: Odakyufan has released OpenBVE 1.4.3.
I want to thank him and anyone else involved for this release!

Re: OpenBVE 1.4.3
Obviously it's my turn to apologise - against any of my presumptions and conclusions, Odakyufan did release a bugfix. Seems I did him wrong.

Re: OpenBVE 1.4.3
Tried two celtic routes - at first I was dismayed at the default rendering, it seemed all wrong. Then I remembered - set the interpolation properly, as I did with previous versions. See the above option window for what works for me
Now that's done everything looks good and works well. Well done and thanks Jens for the update.

Cool. It's good to know he is still developing and I'm looking forward to see what he has in store for the future.

The new version does not run for me, does not show a window. Could somebody suggest a solution? 1.4.2 runs without a problem.

Are you on windows vista or 7? If you are, be sure you're running as administrator. I don't know if this actually does anything, but I've gotten into the habit of running most programs on 7 as admin, just to keep anything errors from occurring. Also try running in windows XP SP3 compatibility mode.liquid_ wrote:The new version does not run for me, does not show a window. Could somebody suggest a solution? 1.4.2 runs without a problem.

Re: OpenBVE 1.4.3
I don't know what OS your computer is using, but the problems posted elsewhere on this thread don't actually exist.
There's normally two reasons why a copy of Open Bve does not work.
You have not followed the instructions to download it and what else it needs to work or where you have put what else it needs.
Although there is another one, the oalinst file in the Open Bve folder, that sometimes needs to be opened and run.
I still use the last 1.2 version, on my computer.
Anything I run, has translucent edges to the textures in any version of 1.4 and Michelle altered the sound config in 1.4 and that means nothing on Bve4Trains actually sounds as I intended!
I would only recommend using a 1.4 version if it makes trains that you can not run before work on your computer.
But the way Open Bve works in all Windows OS, is exactly the same.
I can't comment on Windows 8 or is it 7 with a touch screen bit added?

Re: OpenBVE 1.4.3
Windows 8 is vastly different to 7 for all I know.
I don't know what you did wrong to produce the implausible behaviour you describe; or to use your post's logic: I don't have that problem, so it doesn't exist, must be something you did.
About the sound behaviour - it only affects greater distances, I didn't find any noticeable change to how the cab itself sounds.

Re: OpenBVE 1.4.3
Yes, as I said; she changed the behaviour for greater distances. The (in my musical ears well achieved) aim was to create a sound behaviour mimicking the real life sound perception. Roughly said the sounds from greater distance are tuned up in volume till a specific volume level is reached, averting the unrealistic absolute silence occuring in the old sound system especially on older routes with very few "stationary" sounds. Just go along a railway line from urban to rural space; you'll notice the distance from which you hear a e.g. railway crossing varies greatly, as the ear's sensitivity (or anatomically more correct, the brain's listening centre's sensitivity) adapts to the general level of sound and noise around you. And that's exactly what Michelle's novelisation achieves. The old model was physically more correct; but it didn't feel right, as computer speakers of course don't even get anywhere near the dynamics of real life, prohibiting the brain from adjusting to the general volume as it would in real life.

If you've got a previous version installed, just extract over the top. If not:
Download the appropriate SDL 1.2 DMG from here & install:
http://libsdl.org/download-1.2.php
Download the OpenAL DMG from here & install:
http://connect.creativelabs.com/openal/Downloads/OpenAL_Installer_OSX.dmg
Download the latest Mono version from here & install:
http://www.go-mono.com/mono-downloads/download.html
Finally, open a terminal at your OpenBVE location & run:
mono OpenBVE.exe
Cheers

Re: OpenBVE 1.4.3
thanks Chris, odakyufan's site is back online. Turns out the precompiled Mac version I was looking for was made by a different guy, so I'll go find him and tell him to update to 1.4.3
Re: OpenBVE 1.4.3
Yep, that's 1.4.3.
I don't believe that a DMG or app bundle was ever officially offered, but they're not hard to create.
When I've got some free time I'll look at running one up (I'll need to see if I can get access to a current Intel Mac). Instructions here if you're reasonably conversant with the terminal:

Re: OpenBVE 1.4.3
thanks again, our friends at openBVE NYC are also working on creating an updated Mac app, and if you will be getting to it too, I think I'd best not join, especial considering my lack of familiarity with Terminal.
Cheers, and if you manage to create an updated DMG, do let us know
