Between Harrow-on the Hill and Wembley Park there are express tracks. If there is to be a peak-time scenario I believe it wouldn’t hurt to have animated trains on the express tracks. Same goes for the section between Moor Park and Harrow-on-the Hill. Static trains could be used as well, e.g. at station stops or in sidings. We could potentially also have a mix of both on the running lines. There are also ways to animate objects to mirror yours or to arrive and depart slightly before and/or after your train does.

I really do like animated objects. Because I think it maps a map look better like, how its made the Network West Midlands map go from a map to an excellently animated map. Say like if the Met. Line map could have trains arriving into the station as well as departing and passing by.

Is it even possible to have AI-controlled trains running in the other direction? I don’t think so since BVE supports only one possible running track and that’s the one your train is on. Still that doesn’t mean it’s not possible to have animated trains.

Just as in the "cartoony style"-thread my guess is you'll find your nostalgia for the old limitations of BVE isn't shared by many.

The opening doors concept has not been put into practice because it involves the animated train’s doors being triggered when you open your own doors. I found this Mexican route where the trains arrive at the platform a little bit before you stop and then leave after your train clears the platform. Maybe we could put that into practice?
