Optimum graphics options
I've been doing a few tests with different graphics setting to see what setting offer the best experience, my current setup is
Fullscreen - 1960 x 1080
Mode - Anisotropic filtering
Level of anisotropic filerting - 16
Level of anti-aliasing - 16
Transparency - Smooth
Viewing distance - 800m
Using the default OpenBVE settings, as can be seen in the below screenshot, you get texture noticable texture distortion mid way along the second car, getting worse towards the rear of the train -
Using the custom settings above, you get a much nicer, less distorted display -
Of course, these settings will vary by PC/Graphics hardward/software etc.
Anyone have any other settings recommendations?

Re: Optimum graphics options
Your optimum settings are broadly the same as the ones I favour on my home PC, and which I recommend for all my routes. Perhaps the "default" settings may be less demanding on computer power, but visually they're disappointing.
Re: Optimum graphics options
There should be no 'optimum' options
The Mode goes up in order of quality.
Higher levels of AA or AF will always look better, as will higher resolutions. (Albeit at the expense of the UI becoming smaller)
TBQH I don't think the default options have changed in openBVE's lifetime (Although some routes and stuff have become massively more complicated, which balances things out)
What we really need is a detection mechanism on first launch to set the optimum settings in advance......

Would that be difficult to implement? And would routefiles need to be edited in order to select a suitable set of features? It sounds like an excellent idea.

Yes but no
Most modern PCs with dedicated graphics are likely to be CPU limited, but laptops and integrated graphics are more dicey. IIRC detecting the graphics card is harder than the CPU info.
Will have to do some playing.
