OpenAL: The sound device could not be opened major issue.
I don't know what the issue is! OpenBVE was working fine for the past two years now this error has come and won't leave me alone! The error is "The openAL sound device could not be opened." I have reinstalled OpenAL 53 times already and there is STILL no getting around this error. I can still play OpenBVE but I can't hear anything from the game, and not only that every time I load up route viewer it will freeze for three minutes then give me the OpenAL issue. I have tried restarting, I have tried running the game as admin, still nothing. OpenAL shows up installed in my control panel. Every other game works on my computer except OpenBVE. Can anyone help??

That sounds rather like a Windows 10 update has broken your sound drivers.
Windows 10 has the habit of 'helpfully' updating your drivers in the background, no matter which option you select. ( )
Sometimes these break things which had been working perfectly well.....
Try downloading and installing the latest drivers for your soundcard from your motherboard / PC manufacturer.

Are you sure that's the only solution? What if I download the old sound drivers from the AMD website?

AMD provided drivers would be fine.
Whilst this isn't necessarily the case, a common 'problem' is that Windows Update under 10 decides to install a new driver in the background.

Plenty more examples of this if you google around, including Realtek and others.
A reinstall with the latest drivers usually helps if this is the case
If not, it can't do any harm. (I know, famous last words!)

Ok last thing before I try this;
At random times OPENBVE will load with the sounds but only a VERY few times. Is that anything.

The best answer I can give you is that my Windows 10 VMs work OK.
Without being able to reproduce this, and without anyone else reporting the problem, I'm a little stuck.
Does 1.4.3 work?
