can we sell addons that we make ourselves?

hello everyone, can we sell addons that we make ourselves? if anything can be passed, if not, why? and include clear reasons. because I found several BVE addons which are sold freely by creators

BVE Is freeware.

BVE Is Open source.

I've never seen any BVE addons for sale so I'd be interested to see where you've found them?

I'd advise against paying for any addons you do find for sale.

Some developers do accept donations but none are compulsory.

I personally am not against this.

Well, nothing bans you from doing that, at least the license of OpenBVE does not ban you from publishing addons for sale. OpenBVE is open-source, but that does not mean its addons have to be open-source.
You own the copyright of the addons you made. So I guess you can do anything you want with it.

Most creators so far have been publishing their addons for free. So I would not suggest selling addons. But it is up to you.

This is a *very* old and complex issue going right back to the inception of BVE in the western community.

As the current custodian of the program, I discourage this, and will not provide direct support for this. This is in line with the previously expressed wishes of Michelle.
Further, whilst developing / hosting the program and addons costs me a not insignificant amount of time and money a year, in well over 20 years I've never taken a donation of any description.

What I can't do however is stop you or any other user from doing so.
It saddens me to see this, but that's all- It's your right.


In the end of things, players must make the decision for themselves on who / what they wish to support, whether this be by purchase of commercial addons, donations or simple praise.
