I'm using OpenBVE and it's associated programs on a brand new Windows 10 HP laptop without any issues... maybe ask him to install a fresh copy of OpenBVE using the latest downloads?

Nothing I'm aware of.

There have been a couple of 'suddenly stopped working' reports over the years, but nothing that I've ever been able to reproduce or debug.
The most likely cause of something like this would be Windows 'helpfully' deciding to update the graphics driver.

If he installs the latest version and it doesn't work, ask him to post here, and I can always try to figure out what's wrong.
