Signals around the world Empty Signals around the world

Just seen the link in another forum. There are inaccuracies and also there's only the light signals, but still it might be a valuable ressource if you just want to check, what the aspects roughly mean before driving some unknown OpenBVE-route from somewhere in the world ;-)

A great resource, and as far as the Finnish signals go, the essentials are right. The few errors and omissions are no problem for an OpenBVE driver.

I checked the German signals thoroughly, things are simplified very much (e.g. signal Zs7: Proceed on sight (or to use ETCS/ERTMS-terms: "Staff Respnsible") is right, but not only till the next signal but also 400m further. Signal Zs7 is given, if there might be an obstruction behind the signal. But as the track contacts are not at the next signal, which is the end of the block, but at the end of the overlap, that's up to 300m behind the signal, the obstruction which seems to be between signal 1 and signal 2 in the signal box might as well be up to 300m behind signal 2 in reality. And as 300m aren't round, 400m are the rule), but there is only one real error: Shunting isn't at 40km/h, it is at 25km/h. There are specific rules and situations, where shunting is allowed with 40km/h; the conditions includes additional oral permission by the signal/wo/man, brake tests etc. and it must be permitted in the station book. There are maybe two or three stations in all Germany where this is llowed, so it's negligible for a hobbyist. So shunting = 25km/h, shunting in tracks under construction = 20km/h.

What's missing very much, of course, is the speed signals, those are very important as well, but alas...

A useful resource. The UK page is pretty accurate. Not all signal types are featured and there are a couple of minor errors in those which are, but in all major respects the descriptions are accurate, and all of the signals are very nicely drawn.
