OpenBVE Joystick Question Empty OpenBVE Joystick Question

Post by CaptED Wed Aug 29, 2012 3:29 pm

Question about Joystick setup .....

I want use a Saitek Throttle Quadrant...
I want it to increase/decrease as I "SLIDE" the levers up/down....

I can set it up for throttle/brake but I must Jack it up/down....
example:
If I use a Gamepad which is spring loaded to center, I Jack it up/down one notch at a time...

I hope this makes sense to the readers....

Thanks in Advance...
Ed

OpenBVE Joystick Question Empty Re: OpenBVE Joystick Question

Usually, plug and play joysticks are automatically detected in openbve. If you want to set it so the joystick controller moves at the same time as the Power/Brake notches you will have to use commands which have the name _axis.

Seeing as you have a throttle quadrant you would need to make a new command by:

1. Opening openbve
2. clicking Customize Controls
3. Select the tab called "Add Control"
4. scroll down the list full of the commands which are already in use until you come to a line which has the words N/A
5. Click that command then at the bottom below the add control you have two options. Keyboard and Joystick.
6. Select Joystick
7. Then there should be a long tab which (when clicked on) shows all the commands avalible.
8. Scroll down until you come across this command "SINGLE_FULLAXIS", select that then...
9. To the mid bottom left you will see a box which should show up a message to do with assigning a button or axis to a command. Click that
8. The box should turn red with the message "move the joystick in the desired direction(something like that)

In your case you should move both throttle ENG 1 and ENG 2 forwards

The box should automatically turn to normal and now your throttle quadrant has been assigned to the combined power brake notches.

Note: This function is only for adding axis such as what is described above or any joysticks with a moving function. It will not work with button type controls such as a clicking gear changer on a car steering set. To do these you will have to edit the current settings for the keyboard and assign the keyboard functions to them.

I hope this helps.
Any questions, PM me.

Regards

@Capt Ed
Hi Ed, Looks like you're getting on great with your new program, and getting all the help you needed.
Any chance you could knock the all-bold type off when you're posting? It makes it harder to read on a lot of browsers. Very Happy

OpenBVE Joystick Question Empty Re: OpenBVE Joystick Question

Hi Gang....

Issac has finally passed (Only 8 inches of rain)

The first thing I can say with certainty .... before you add a joystick or anything and configure it be SURE TO EXPORT the Orginal Configuration...
This comes from the "Hard School of Knocks"...

Now I have finally added the Throttle Quadrant, FULL AXIS using Shaq's Post... and for the most part I am happy with it ...

More as I learn it...

OpenBVE Joystick Question Empty Re: OpenBVE Joystick Question

Post by CaptED Fri Aug 31, 2012 8:42 pm

Hi Gang .....

I have had to turn off some of my USB Joystick, Rudder Pedals...

I use Windows 7 64 bit...

and in the Control Panel / Device Manager ... goto the Human Interface
and You can disable them ... Reason for not unplugging them is account other Sim's you use need the specific order ...
You can goto your devices and printer section to make sure you have disabled the correct one...

OpenBVE does the same thing so if you disable your Rudder Pedals etc. it will cause the other USB devices to change number...

I hope this makes sense...

Ed

I would be interested in how you have the Joystick HAT switch set !!!... and any thing else you use the Joystick for...

Now I do have my Single Handle Throttle/Brake and the Dual Handle Throttle & Brake set to a Throttle Quadrant ...

OpenBVE Joystick Question Empty Joystick use vs Price....

Post by CaptED Thu Sep 06, 2012 3:34 pm

Hi Gang...

Can we say a Picture is worth a Thousand works... I have seen that
Video on Youtube and it did look sweet....

Thanks "alvinhochun" for showing the insides of this baby....
Now when it comes to Prices the Leo Bodnar Boards are about $40 USD and 30 Euro...
add the price of the fancy enclosure the other small things you could figure atleast another 10 bucks....

Now on Ebay in UK, You can find New "Saitek Throttle Quadrant" 3 lever version for 49.48 buy it now with free shipping...

OpenBVE Joystick Question Empty Re: OpenBVE Joystick Question

Post by CaptED Sun Sep 16, 2012 5:57 pm

Hi to all Readers....

First Thanks to all that have Posted and Messaged me about this issue....

I have finally accepted the fact that the newer versions of OpenBVE have a issue with the "Joystick Full Axis Throttle"...

So I simply assigned Half Axis for Throttle and Half for Brake and of course the Single Handle Throttle/Brake all assigned to the same Lever...

Here is a Picture of the controller setup... It is done in Gray Scale account Laser printer is Black only .. (Cheap Printing)

Hopefully the image will come thru...

Ed

OpenBVE Joystick Question Empty Re: OpenBVE Joystick Question

Post by Dysonsphere Wed Jan 30, 2013 1:12 pm

Just set up Saitex X52 Pro with seperate throttle is tricky as it seems best way is to set throttle with centre dead zone and up to notch up and back to go down but Open BVE like to see button clicks so nudge up for 1 notch or push full travel for full on or of. Any other ideas welcome.
