My version of the glow_red.png
At often times, I use the current glow_red.png from one generally added in most if not all rolling stocks, or very rarely a couple of them from the openBVE's own signals subfolder in $[AssemblyFolder]/Data/Compatibility/Signals/Graphics. But most of the time I certainly wasn't satisfied with the current ones available, either from preloaded sources or from certain developers thou shan't be named. Of course, developers can create their own night lighting effects, so I did using paint.net.
I started off with a simple large blob of anything but the too obvious red colour. Then I picked the Gaussian Blur effect, but I also wanted to draw the circumference appropriately by "reducing noise". This is to prevent too much of the effect, otherwise, it's rather pointless had it would have been barely visible in the game. Below is my result: (Released into Public Domain)
This being used in @Busheyheath's CSLR Mather & Platt locomotive.
