If the line goes to Belfast, shouldn't Drogheda station be renamed Drogheda Iinternational? If a dump like Ashford can do it, why not Drogheda?

One of the tightest curves on the British Rail Network is a "4 chain radius" going into Wolverton Works by the way. pirat

@Tstageman Hi Tom, there is a painless way to build curved platforms, which is to use Guillyman's "Platform Generator" from http://www.eezypeazy.co.uk The difficulty for me was the bilingual safety warnings on the platform surface, necessitating an extra face per section to keep the proportions correct for any given width. So I hand-coded it. It isn't so hard when you've had the practice, seeing I've been at it nearly two years now.

shouldn't Drogheda station be renamed Drogheda International?
Drogheda isn't a dump, which is probably why. There's an airport in Co Mayo called "Knock International Airport". Knock IS a dump. A very holy dump, but a dump none the less.

That's a 81metre radius curve. Which is tight as a crab's arse at forty fathoms. As a turn into a works / yard it's not the same as if it was on a main line, is it?

Ah but your tracks have a wider gauge and thus your trains are not so inclined to fall off on the curves Twisted Evil

Actually, the science behind curves and wheel profiles is that if the train takes the curve at exactly the right speed then there should be no tendency to fall off, cos the wheel profiles act as a differential and I think the science behind dumps is that they all them "International" in order to convince the inmates that it's a great place that the whole world wants to visit.

"Ashford International! Ashford International! All passengers alighting here are reminded to abandon all hope at the station exit."

Thanks for the reply gray, however when I've tried to run the Platform Gen, I get an error message come up saying 'Can't load or register custom control; 'COMDLG32.OCX'. What is the problem?

Thanks

Hey Tom I've got the missing .dll file for you. This error is quite a common problem on Windows 7 (and i think) vista computers when you run programs like this and prail for one other example.
What's your email? So I can send the file.

Once you recieve it copy and paste in in the same location as where platform generator is.

A station house buildng. Platform canopy can be added. Object is double-sided so can be used on left or right of track. Various textures can allow extra versions, only two texture files are needed for all the walls.

Shaq is not strictly correct here. Al has informed me that Platform Generator was written using Visual Basic 4 and suffers from this problem when running on some 64 bit systems. The answer is that you need to download the COMDLG32.OCX file and then register it on your computer. Full instructions are to be found here: http://devonenote.com/2010/02/register-comdlg32-ocx-on-x64-win7/
Be careful to follow the regsvr32 c:\Windows\system32\comdlg32.ocx command to the letter, better still paste the text into your "Run" box!

Actually, Ben, you should only get these things from Microsoft approved places, so MVPS has the approved instructions, MVPS standing for Microsoft Most Valuable Professional (MVP) program.

MVPS Home Page which has useful stuff for Windows users.

Hmm you may be right Ben. I may have not exactly fully but I also got shown by al how to make it work but I was using the power rail pit generator by TSC which may have been coded in VB 4.

I'm sure it will be a fine job!

For those beginners interested, here's how a simple bay window can be added to a building, using a single mesh and single texture. Sample texture, explanation and .b3d file here:

That's better, it gives it real depth, much more realistic. The bays need to be a teeny bit wider to cover their old position on the front wall, but you're nearly there.

If only the unititiated realised . . . . . . . . lots of time can be easily spent on tweaking Very Happy

Here's a wee shelter based on a Co Dublin model. I've put a couple of vending machines in it and also have a version with a ticket machine and another with a bench seat.

. . . . . . it's sometimes the little touches of detail that make a big difference, and they're good gap-fillers too Laughing

This is a little something I'm working on at the moment...

I would have some other screenshots but Routeviewer has just decided to stop working saying there is an error and it must close, error 14 if that helps identify it, any ideas guys?

Thanks

It's good to see plenty of us working on some promising projects. Maybe there should be a BVE Worldwide object library introduced?? It is possible that some of us might "donate" items for others to use.

I'd definitely contribute to that, I think that'd be an excellent idea. I have a few items that I'm constructing for my latest project that I would definitely donate to such a library. At the moment I have station signs, houses, churches, platforms and very shortly, some signals too.

I would like to hear an opinion from Derryck. After all, it's more work for the site admin if the idea is made reality. It would be a public spirited thing to do, as well as showing encouragement to more users to get involved in making stuff.

Well it was down to the encouragement of you guys on this forum that made me get into creating for OpenBVE, so for that I thank you all. I would happily lend a helping hand to the site admin if needed and this went ahead, it would be an invaluable source for new route creators and building creators alike.
