[PROJECT TURNED PRIVATE] 1970s New York City Subway recreation in OpenBVE
Update 04/2022: Due to unauthorized sharing of some of my WIP content that led to them getting leaked within the NYC BVE community, this project has officially turned entirely private.
On top of that, to be realistic, this project would have taken many many years to complete and many people here would have already moved on in life by the time it's ever completed. I prefer to work on this big project for my own taking my time without the burden of limiting some features and getting things perfectly done in a fairly quick amount of time.
I probably won't post here anymore but if you still want to see the development of this project, I will still make videos on my YT channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCGq5FJM5XWFQojJskzLYeoQ
The Paris Metro project is still public and I will keep posting there.
Admins feel free to shut this thread down.
Hi everyone, some of you may already know me, but for those who don't: I'm a route & train developer for OpenBVE (a.k.a. 1960-1970s Lover).
This thread is about the recreation of the 1970s New York City Subway, although most routes will feature 1960s and 1980s variants. Probably the most exciting era of the subway when there was a huge variety of rolling stock on the same lines, and a lot of subway car paint schemes especially in the late 1960s and 1980s. This project will include all the routes and all the rolling stock in the system of that time.
THIS PROJECT IS CURRENTLY ON HOLD!
That said, before jumping into the screenshots, here's first of all a map of the NYC Subway from 1972, just to give an idea for those who are not familiar with this system:
Secondly, here is the project list showing the routes I'm making in their respective order (this list might receive updates in the future):
Screenshots showing the progress of this project as of right now:
Routes:
IRT 42nd Street Shuttle: 1970s & 1980s variants done. Track & tunnel work to be updated and route to be signaled.
Video showcasing the route (route has been updated since then): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9hleS5NwrlQ&t=2966s
IRT South Ferry Shuttle: WIP, skeleton built and objects to be placed.
Trains:
1967-1970 St. Louis-GSI R40, R40M & R42 pre-GOH pack: Done, includes 1970s & 1980s graffiti variants. Link: https://www.mediafire.com/file/9m3zfm82rww5e5e/R40-R40M-R42.rar/file
NOTE 2022: These trains were built in an inefficient way as I built them almost 4 years ago. Since I drastically improved my development skills since then, these trains will be entirely rebuilt somewhere along the way.
1973 FTA State of the Art Cars: Done. Link: https://www.mediafire.com/file/1c33jexpp83gjh8/State_Of_The_Art_Car_%2528SOAC%2529_%255BNYCTA%255D.rar/file
NOTE 2022: This trains was built in an inefficient way as it was made and modified a long time ago. Since I drastically improved my development skills since then, this train will be entirely rebuilt somewhere along the way.
1948 American Car & Foundry R10: WIP, will include 1950s, 1960s, 1970s graffiti and 1980s variants.
1955 American Car & Foundry R16: WIP, will include 1950s, 1960s, 1970s graffiti and 1980s variants.
IRT SMEE pack (R12, R14, R15, R17, R21, R22, R26, R28, R29, R33ML, R33WF, R36ML, R36WF [1948-1964]): WIP, will include 1950s, 1960s, 1970s with graffiti variants and 1980s with graffiti variants.

1955 American Car & Foundry R16 as delivered in 1955:
Slowly adding objects to the IRT South Ferry Shuttle: platforms, walls and pillars installed at Bowling Green station. Staircases and the underpass between the Shuttle and the Mainline platforms will be added once I find more information about the original station configuration.

Oh hey! I'm CT1660, the original dev of the R-16 project. I'm glad to see there is another person interested in the recreation of the 70s era NYCTA! I'm honestly impressed with your work so far and the level of detail and effort done on it!
I actually have a heavily modified Franklin Avenue shuttle (built on T'Jay's "1969" variant) that I use as a test route, I can gladly send it over to you if you'd like as well as other resources you might find useful, which I hope helps a lot! It's a side project I had for years which I've tried to faithfully recreate to the real-life line as it was in the 1970s.
If you're using the Oskari plugin for the auxiliary controls (rollsigns, lights, etc), here is the keymap (on the current R16 download, there is some documentation I left behind for anyone who wanted to use its resources, which I hope helps):

Everything looks really nice. Been having fun with the R42 and 1973 A Line.
What settings do you use for your game? And, do you have any plugins?

Re: [PROJECT TURNED PRIVATE] 1970s New York City Subway recreation in OpenBVE
ANNOUNCEMENT: I will soon delete the current released BETA of the 1970s IND 8th Avenue Line (A line) and the old version of the 1970s BMT Jamaica & Nassau St Line (J, K, KK, M and QJ lines), in order to make way for a new upcoming final BETA of the 1970s BMT Broadway Line (EE, N, QB and RR lines), and because they became outdated and not up to my standards anymore. This is the only big BETA planned for now, since I'm not a huge fan of releasing a lot of BETAs in the first place. I remind you that this project may be complete in a lot of years, since I'm currently working on smaller and more important projects for now (Paris Metro and other NYC projects), that is why I will release this BETA (which is almost completed since these routes were made for video purposes only) in order to have something to play with during the wait.

Go to train folders and enable a version you want via Utility Set Car Changer.

Update 2022: This project is on hold until further notice. Links to the BETA 1970s 8th Avenue and Jamaica routes deleted. Links to the R40, R40M and R42, and the State Of The Art Car re-uploaded. Note that these trains will be rebuilt due to them being inefficiently built and no longer up to my standards, thanks. Regarding the earlier post about the BETA 1970s Broadway line, forget about it. I had more important stuff to work on.

It's a long shot, but can anyone help me? I am trying to figure out how to edit a train and add the ability to light the rollsign up like they did back in the 1970s.
I know the emissive color needed, I've been able to change the color on the current R16 we have available. What I am unable to do is program a train to turn it on and off.

The Paris Metro project is still public and I will keep posting there.

That's sad news. Some people just don't know how to behave … I'll leave the thread open for now since "probably won't post" means there is a chance you might after all, so I'll just hope for the best ;-)
