BVE crashes when trying to load a route and train
To the users of BVE WorldWide-
Forgive me if I've violated forum policy in some way, shape, or form by posting here or not looking for something. My issue seems to entail that after I've selected my route and my train and attempt to load it up, OpenBVE crashes.
I'm on a Mac (which probably reduces the amount of help you can offer) running MacOS 10.14.6 (Mojave). Any help or tips you can provide would be wonderful.
Regards,
Joseph

We need more data. Program version? OS and OS version? Which train, which route? Any error message?

Re: BVE crashes when trying to load a route and train
Mac is somewhat difficult to debug as I don't have a 'real' one, and so I end up relying on second-hand reports.....
Please can you confirm the OpenBVE version you're running- There was an issue with version 1.7.1.0, which I *believe* has been fixed, but I have no confirmation of that or any real means of testing that easily.
1.7.0.3 (linked from the main download page) is the last version I have positive confirmation of running.
The crash log may help:
Bottom left of the main menu, click Report Problem
From there, select the previous crash button.
Finally, please try the most recent daily build:

I appear to have installed 1.7.0.3.
I will try installing the version you linked.
The crash log is as follows, if it is of an any help (warning, quite long):

That's a crash I haven't seen before...
Looks like the mono garbage collector fell over and took the entire runtime with it.
Try updating mono as well; They're on 6x at the minute, and it certainly feels like a bug at their end; The known issue was with the openGL context failing, so nothing related.

Updated mono to the latest version. The issue persists, unfortunately. If it's on mono's end, is there anything I can do about it? Could I use an older version of mono?

Not easily unfortunately.
I'm going to have to try and borrow access to a Mac somewhere

If you do end up getting access to a Mac and figuring this out, I will forever be indebted to you. Cheers!

Try this:
https://vps.bvecornwall.co.uk/OpenBVE/Builds/OpenBVE-2020-04-24.dmg
Every time I try to sort something on an Mac, it's an absolute utter pain...
Wasted a whole afternoon on this, and it's still not perfect
I *believe* though this actually is playable.
The glitch with the main menu not drawing well initially is still there, but this is a Mono issue.
Some techincal details:

Some techincal details:
- Getting the max AF level (a simple GL.GetString call) was causing the whole thing to fall over miserably. No idea why, it works perfectly on every other thing I've got.......
- MacOS doesn't like mixed mode GL1.2 and 3.3. At the minute, this means the new renderer will not work on Mac, as some parts are still running in intermediate mode.
Re: BVE crashes when trying to load a route and train
Thanks for helping me with this! I drove the A train and it all seems to work. A couple sections of track didn't spawn in, but I don't think that's the fault of Mono. I hope I can use the new renderer one day, but I'm already overjoyed that the sim works.
Cheers!
Cheers!

Re: BVE crashes when trying to load a route and train
If I could have a link to the exact routefile, I'll see if I can reproduce the missing track.
Most of the NYCTA stuff though is a buggy mess, so I suspect it's probably the routefile.
(N.B. I've now pushed a new stable version as this has been tested OK. No more changes though)

Re: BVE crashes when trying to load a route and train
I believe it's this one, if you'd like to test for yourself. 'Tis a shame most routes created are quite buggy.
I'm unable to post links directly, so I have put it in a pdf below.
Nonetheless, what you've done has been plenty to help me, and I think there's nothing more you need to do, so don't worry about the line itself.
