solved TrackGen

Post by Dexter Sat Jan 13, 2018 10:11 pm

Hello guys,
I am experiencing issues with the TrackGen. This is perhaps a question for Chris, but maybe someone has encountered this as well. I am trying to build new trackwork for my new route, but it looks like I am doing something wrong. Well, either me, or the program is. Smile  Can anyone tell me what am I doing wrong. The sttings are in the first picture, the result is in the second. Running Windows 10, but this should have no influence...
The TrackGen forces me to put a comma as a decimal separator, otherwise I get an error "invalid track gauge" in the first place, but it still creates bullshit if I put an integer in there.
Thanks for any advice, I am just stuck. affraid albino

For what it's worth, I've typed in the settings you've shown in the screenshot exactly as you typed them in and it worked flawlessly. Also running windows 10 here, same version of trackgen (1.6.2)

Also, I'm not getting any errors using a decimal seperator.

I do need to run the program in adminstrator mode though, otherwise it won't work.

Haven't used it lately, so I just fired it up to see (under Win7) - but I don't get that problem.
(I entered the Irish gauge, and the screenie uses default textures rather than my own, but as you see it works)

Strange...
Well, I tried to access the zip archive here at work to test it, but unfortunately the local network engineer has put Chris' website into "suspicious" category for some reason... might be the "gen" in the name of that file. I have got windows 7 here as well, so it might be worth giving a go. I am not sure how Windows version would affect the functionality of that program, though...

This is a well-known bug related to system locales. TrackGen originally used the system settings for decimal separators, so if it was run under a language using commas as the decimal separator, the generated file would be messed up.

I had issues with this too and commited a fix to TrackGen's source code, but as there has not been an official release after the fix, the fixed version is only available by compiling the source code here: https://github.com/leezer3/TrackGen

Hopefully there will be a new minor release soon with the fix included Smile

Thanks for the heads up, Marc.
I think there is a mention on the TrackGen download page mentioning this issue should have been resolved... but I cannot verify now as the firewall won't let me go to that page.

I probably still have MS Visual Studio install disc somewhere, so I might be able to compile it... if I find and install the software, that is. :-D

Great, so I cannot compile the program as it is tageting .NET framework 4.6.1 and Windows 10 apparently includes a newer one... so I cannot install the older version... FFS. Mad

Erm, you should be able to install .NET 4.6.1 without any problem. The .NET framework versions aren't exclusive to each other, you can (and more often than not need to) install many versions parallel to each other.

Good, it will be nice to have an online source for the future. But it was actually fun recompiling something on my own after a long while. Wink
