Flying Scotsman download problem Empty Flying Scotsman download problem

Post by jorgecerezo Mon Nov 07, 2016 8:14 pm

Hello,

I am trying to download the BVE 4 Flying Scotsman train from BVE Cornwall: http://www.bvecornwall.co.uk/wordpress/lner-flying-scotsman/

After downloading, I get a message saying that scotsman.exe contains malicious files. I am sure that the author has not uploaded any malicious files, but the file may have been hacked, it is only 916 KB. This is a very small download for a BVE 4 train.

Does anyone get the same message after downloading the file?

Thanks,

Jorge

Short answer is that it's very old (12 years, everything was that size then!), and more than anything was for a long while was pretty much the only steam engine using OS_ATS.

916kb is correct Smile

I get this issue periodically, and then I spend time chasing around the houses to get it unblocked Razz

Which antivirus program are you using please?
I'd guess McAfee, who don't bother responding to emails.....
If so, dump them.

Two days ago both McAfee and Google Chrome told me scotsman.exe contained virus. Today only Google Chrome has considered it a hacked file.

I am going to install the train now.

I have the transparency problem. All the windows are blue, the regulator texture is also blue.

Can I fix this?

Have just done a quick fix on the transparencies and replaced OS_ATS with BVEC_ATS.

Cheers

Thanks for the fix, the transparency problem has been solved.

I now need to get used to driving a steam locomotive, very often the boiler pressure falls and I start to loose power. I am using the injector while driving, but I supposse I am not doing it correctly.

Is it an on/off valve? How should it be used?

How much should I close the reverser as speed increases?

Regards,

Jorge

First off a disclaimer- This isn't a majorly accurate steam engine simulation Razz
There's a lot of things I'd like to change, but most of this stuff is inter-related with the internal workings of the sim itself.
I'm working on changing this stuff, but it takes time.

Some basic principles of driving:

  • Use the momentum of the loco wherever possible. If you're going downhill or have reached near to line speed, shut off the regulator ASAP.
  • Use the injector as little as possible. You should aim to only do this when slowing or stopped at stations, although this isn't always possible.
  • The cutoff should be closed as soon as possible. At approx 30 - 35mph, you should be at minimum cutoff. (30%)

The injector:
This adds water to the boiler, which is then converted into steam.
When used, the boiler water level goes up each second, and the steam pressure drops by a equivilant number of units.

Steam generation & pressure:
A set number of units are generated per-second no matter what, and this is IIRC ~50% of what is used at full throttle.
