Installation on Linux
Not much luck so far. What did I do?
Then a nice splash screen appears, a progress bar starts to fill and as 61%, all the splash screen suddenly disappears, preferences dialog re-appears after a few seconds. That's obviously a crash with automatic restart (ouch, shouldn't restart without asking).
Looking at the task manager, a process "cli" is left behind, one for each attempt to start.
What I'm missing: error or debug messages. Any idea on how to get these?
- Have Ubuntu 19.04.
- Downloaded Debian package 1.6.0.0 from the download page, opened it with the software installer (which takes care of installing dependencies) and installed it.
- Also installed packages bve-train-br-class-323 and bve-train-br-class-323-3dcab to get a train.
- Started the thing on the command line. Some preferences dialog appears.
- Installed route package "Mühltalbahn" using the built in package manager.
- Selected the one available train and one of the routes.
- Clicked Start.

Re: Installation on Linux
If you go to the bottom left of the main window, there is a link entitled 'Report Problem'
Hit this, and you'll be able to see both the main game log and (hopefully) a log from when it previously crashed.
Am I correct in saying the route you're trying is this:
http://www.bvecornwall.co.uk/wordpress/the-muhlkreisbahn/
Will take a look later
Edit:
I've tried all routefiles from the above link (assuming it's correct) on a fresh 19.04 VM / 1.6.0 install.
I can't reproduce a crash at the minute, so I've either got the wrong route, or something else is going on......
Hopefully the log will tell us something.

Re: Installation on Linux
Issue fixed ~17 minutes after reporting on Github. Wow.
The current 1.6.0.0 package is missing a dependency. To compensate (wait for the next release or) do this on the command line:
After this, one gets easily past the splash screen, a train driver cab appears.

Re: Installation on Linux
Oh! I think Mono is expected to be already present in *nix systems. However missing dependencies should be stated clearly by the program, maybe even fixed semi-automatically (dialogue window asking "you miss a dependency package: XY. Do you want me to install it now?").

Re: Installation on Linux
Hotfixed version now up on the main site for good measure
That's one of the few advantages of this being a small project......
Unfortunately, Mono isn't too helpful when one of it's optional components is missing, and this is dumped out in exactly the same way as a user crash
