Re: Rosice Railway
Wow, stunning! I really am looking forward to this route. Great surprise to see significant progress in the current situation, where do you find the time?!

Re: Rosice Railway
Honesty, I am actually surprised myself, but things took a little unexpected turn here, I basically have free evenings now.

Re: Rosice Railway
I've never visited CZ republic, only seen the Brno routes. And I love the incredible detail in them.
I recently found a YT video, a cab view ride from PL to CZ (quite long, over 3½ hours) and looking at parts of it within the CZ borders it's obvious that Dexter's absolutely "nailed it". Scenically it really doesn't get better than this, top class work.

Re: Rosice Railway
Thank you, those are some nice words from you.
I am currently working on something that has not yet been introduced in the sim if I am not mistaken. The question is - are you ready? (If not, just prepare yourself, it will take a few days to put it together )
Re: Rosice Railway
Wow mate , This is definitely good and attention to detail is superb! , Can I ask if you have manually coded all your objects just like in your youtube tutorial videos? or is there another way?

Re: Rosice Railway
Thank you.
Yes, all of the objects are hand-coded. I have been around for a few years now and I am sort of used to it by now... there might be other ways like Blender etc., but I haven't worked with those, so I am not really in position to give any advice on those tools.

It's true! Believe it or not. Same with Celtictrainsim.com output. There's very few tools used to make everything. They are: Route Viewer; Object Viewer; (both come with the OpenBVE program) Windows notepad and Adobe Photoshop. And I keep a printout of the documentation from the OpenBVE project site handy at all times.
With familiarity and practice, hand-coding can be done very quickly, especially for simpler objects. Though it's how you prepare and apply the textures, I believe, that makes the difference between a so-so result and a great result - and Dexter's "nailed it" for sure with his excellent route.

I totally agree with that point - I am trying to make my life as easy as I can by taking good photos, but I would be doomed without Photoshop in some cases anyway. You have to consider the weather and lighting conditions when taking a picture; when it's overcast, you don't have shadows, which is great. On the other hand, in an overcast weather you will probably take a picture with some noise. The color balance and brightness of the picture have to be adjusted almost everywhere.
I am not writing this to scare you or anything, it took me a while before I found this out and you can use my experience to avoid some mistakes. :-)
Re: Rosice Railway
Looks great! But on your website the tab for Rosice is not activated, at least for me.

There will be news when there will be news. Don't pry, that's impolite.

Sorry I have offended you Sir, I just figured if Dexter has a donate button on his website that it might be reasonable to have some information in order to justify a donation.Quork wrote:There will be news when there will be news. Don't pry, that's impolite.

Re: Rosice Railway
Hello Raffles
unfortunately no significant news at this moment. The work is going on quite slowly, spare time is a rarity when you have a young family. But don't worry, I will not leave this project in my drawer. :-)
@Quork
At least he just asked in a normal way, I have experienced much worse, trust me.

Thanks mate. looking forward to it. Take your time, I know I have projects that are going slowly too.Dexter wrote:Hello Raffles

Re: Rosice Railway
So... in the meantime (while the issues with my website are being resolved), let's see what is happening. Below you will find two pictures; the first one is a switch from First Brno Track, as an example of trackwork that was used in that route. The second picture shows a slight upgrade for Rosice Railway... any comments or feedback will be appreciated.

Wow, very nice! Way more realistic. Two things though; the distance between rail and points needs to be bigger and there are guides (I'm not sure if the correct terminology in English) missing at the point where the "inner" rails of the diverging tracks meet.
Did you do it in blender? It's phenomenal!

Re: Rosice Railway
Hi Quork
good points made there, I think I know what you mean. A fun fact - I think the older FBT rail actually does have that guide rail. By the distance I suppose you mean the gap between the mobile part of the switch and the static rail.at the beginning.
It's not done in Blender, it is a hybrid of an output from the switch program by Nils, lots of hand coding and - of course - trying to persuade my old friend Photoshop to do what I want it to do with the textures.

Re: Rosice Railway
I am playing with an idea of a 3D-sleepers rail (got a concept ready), but that would probably melt lower-end systems...
More to come. 8-)

Re: Rosice Railway
That would melt lower end systems? Well, that's why the new OpenGL 3 based renderer is made for!
Apparently, you could make one version with 3D sleepers for high performance PCs and another version with 2D sleepers (or simply call low polygon numbered) for lower performance ones.
