A Rant
As some of you may know a few days ago I uploaded the next version of my Central line route.
Two days ago I was informed by Mega that due to an apparent infringement of copyright my link has been removed.
At present this is being rectified... But that isn't the point!
I have spent countless hours getting this all finished to be released sooner rather than later, and in return this is the treatment I receive for it.
I am not blaming anyone on this forum and I have a sneaking suspicion who is responsible, but you must understand it is incredibly infuriating and off putting to a developer, to have this producto del tracto digestivo thrown at him just for creating what is supposed to be something fun!
I sincerely hope that this little community in the forum continue to treat each other with respect, and keep bve what it is and always should be, fun.
I am beginning to understand why so many people have gotten fed up developing things, the amount of agro you can get for no reason is astonishing!
In this brave depressing new world can we all not just be friends? We all like trains and we all have a common interest in this forum as far as I am concerned, so please let's try and inspire the younger generation and have no more of this nonsense.
I created the central line because I wanted to share my imagination and interest with others, so you'll understand what I mean when I say this is the thanks I get for it?!

Re: A Rant
Dan, I understand your point of view.
I don't think this is someone's way of expressing thanks - we all know what some people are on about and you are correct that many people have left due to this. However, the ones, who have remained, us at BVE Worldwide, appreciate any good work that is delivered. Don't let yourself be put off or angered by some party spoilers.
On a side note - servers such us Megaupload have been proved to not give a shite about uploaders. The only provider, who will talk to you, is the one you give your money to.

Re: A Rant
Fear not I am not entirely put off releasing anything else, I just wanted to make my feelings known.
Re: A Rant
Yepp. I still offer to organise and pay a common BVE hosting on Strato. I would make a central overview page and link to all hosted (and external interested) sites, while everyone would be responsible for their own homepage and files. Everybody would get an own folder, FTP access to it and a subdomain. Three domains are free. One would be used for the main page, two would be given to the first two devs/dev teams to come to me (and who would be happy with a domain within the tl range included in the Strato hosting package; IIRC that's .de, .com, .net and .org), the rest would have to register their domain themselves (costs countryspecific) if they'd want one.

Re: A Rant
I think Quork's offer is worth considering. As it's a "paid for" hosting server it would put the full burden of proof on anyone complaining of copyright issues to a degree of certainty which should prevent malicious and merit-less complaints being acted on.
Even if Dex hosts the material a second hosting server would ensure continuity of supply.

Re: A Rant
@Gray: Yep, and my hosting is paid as well, so certain people might be told to "go away" with their somewhat impertinent claims...

No doubt, many of you will have seen the statement posted on BVE-Terminus. I will not give it oxygen by linking to it here, but this is a response to both it and the other events of this year.

Re: A Rant
Oh well, I will have to wait until I get home to read the thing, since the firewall at where I am at right now has other ideas...
Re: A Rant
I'll rather not write down what I am thinking of this "gentle"man, I'd by appaled by my own wording... Thank you, Chris, that you do still have the nerve to reply in calm words.

Re: A Rant
The accusation against me that all the tunnels are Alan's and that the route won't run without it are absolute nonsense.
However when I fixed the mega situation I did find one file with his name actually on it.
I have agreed to re-examine a few sections of code because there is a possibility it might have a bit of his code left over that I somehow missed. If this is the case I shall replace it in the next version.
This gentleman's as you call him attitude has frankly been disgusting, and arrogant. The so called pdf posted about me is completely untrue and personally offensive!
It is one thing to claim I am using someone else's work, it is another to claim that I owe all my thanks to him. Err no.
Furthermore this other claim that the audio files the train uses were obtained from his contacts, err no. They are from an old minidisc recording I made more than 10 years ago. The contacts in question even though some of them were in high places gave me nothing as they couldn't be located.
It is really infuriating to be accused of these things.
As it happens I am still waiting for the gentleman to email me back with the apparent code that is used in the route, so far nothing...
This will be last thing I say on the matter.
I sincerely hope in spite of all this people continue to enjoy the route, a lot of time went in to it!

Re: A Rant
Well, such people happen. We had such a "specialist" in the miniature railway I'm participating in (and which was one of the things which made me decide to work at the big railway) as well. He decided we had to employ him (and pay a monthly wage equivalent to half our yearly budget back then; mind we all are honorary, there's no profit involved...) and when this didn't happen he withdrew and claims till today some of the rails (which were donated to us by a "Feldbahn" hobbyist [seems there is no English word for this? Even en.wiki calls it the German name...] we know longer than that special gentleman...) got to us thanks to him, thus are his and he would come some day and cut them out and take them home (whatever he'd do with 7kg/m rail profiles...).
So: Weirdos happen.

Topic locked. Despite that I do understand your points of view, I don't see any positive income this debate is going to have for anyone, it is rather looking like being on its road to decline to some mockery.
If anyone wishes to conduct a debate composed of taunts, please do it in private. I am not interested in dealing with reports suggesting there are "defamatory comments" etc.
Thanks for understanding.
