List of Devs accepting Donations
I think such a list would be sensible to have. I know of Dexter only ATM. A complete list, ideally with available donation methods, would help us donators distribute funds evenly. And it would help even more, if devs would write a post, be it here or in a separate thread, informing when they either run short of capital (so we know whom to give priority) or if they have received enough donations for several months (while I'd be absolutely happy with a dev being able to go to cinema with their love thanks to surplus donations, I wouldn't want it to happen simultaneously to another dev having to decide between heater and server). I have decided on a certain monthly budget of donations beginning with job accession after all exams are passed (contract is guaranteed already) and I'd like to be fair with it.
If this list is going to be done, I'd request this thread to be pinned as an announcement.

Re: List of Devs accepting Donations
Our site accepts donations, the site so far has raised £8 towards its monthly £15 cost, but thanks to all who have donated, a thankyou email has been sent to all of them

Re: List of Devs accepting Donations
Well, who doesn't tell, doesn't get, it's as simple as that ;-) Except if I find it by accident^^ So, I'll give away the first batch today (using PayPal)...
EDIT: Mr. Knowitall, you stated, you collect donations, but I can't see anything of this on your page? Guess that's why you didn't get much when you last posted about the topic^^

Re: List of Devs accepting Donations
Given the fact nothing has happened despite very vivid discussions, I'll do it this way... I post my donations and hope this inspires both devs to finally get going and have donation buttons on their pages and users to finally get going and donate.
Quork's March donation budget is spent as follows:
BVE Station - 7.50 USD
Brno BVE - 7.50 EUR

Re: List of Devs accepting Donations
Hello Quork,
as I have announced before, BrnoBVE Website does accept donations and I hope the donation system is easy to find for anyone. I would also like to confirm the donation has arrived to the PayPal account - THANK YOU. I have an order being processed by my host now - after it is activated, the commercials should disappear from BrnoBVE. I am expecting this to happen on Monday latest...

Re: List of Devs accepting Donations
I'm truly sorry but I have made a mistake. The donation in US-Dollars went to BVE Station, not BVE Terminus, I mixed up the two of them while writing! BVE Terminus isn't requesting donations, quite on the contrary, as I have been informed, BVE Terminus is powering other dev's pages as well, a financial (and I suppose technical) effort worth recognition and respect!

Re: List of Devs accepting Donations
That is true, I think one of them (admins) of BVE Terminus mentioned they have a sponsor as well. He actually made it possible to establish the site and everything else. But I don't know the details.
Re: List of Devs accepting Donations
As of now graymac has finally got out the "begging bowl" and added a Paypal donation link on the celtictrainsim.com site.
I haven't had a chance to test it dynamically yet, but I have every confidence in Paypal - thanks to all supporters who use it!

Quork's April donation budget is spent as follows:
CelticTS - 15.00EUR
Well, altogether, did I miss something, or are there still only three dev sites accepting donations, namely CelticTrainSim (EU/IR), BrnoBVE (EU/CZ) and BVE Station (US)? One might think there would be more, considering the debate a few months ago. Well, bigger chances for those who do to cover their costs

Re: List of Devs accepting Donations
Thanks for that contribution, Quork. Site hosting renewal day is becoming less fearsome looking as the year rolls on.
I'm giving a Irish Rail 2800 fully featured dmu to everyone who cares to donate. It's the same one shown in the video on the site and it has never been publicly released. Only for the few!! :-)

Small public statement from me.
BVE Cornwall has never, and *will* never ask for donations

What it costs me to run my site is by no means peanuts, but way, way back in 2001 was given help and support by many members of the then Crotrainz community, and in the last few years I hope I've been giving a little back myself.
Cheers

Re: List of Devs accepting Donations
Personally I have no plans to add a donation feature to my site.
My view is that if you want cash, what are you doing making things for Open Bve?
At a rough gess based on the info Google Analytics gives me, I could give up work and live rather well if I charged even one £ for a download.
That's not what the point is in Open Bve, Bve4 or even 5.
It's free and so it should be.
I have ad's on Bve 4Trains, but that's it.
They have covered my costs every two years for just one and that's as far money making get's with me.

Re: List of Devs accepting Donations
Well, speaking for myself, I am not doing anything for cash, it is just a voluntary thing for people, who care and are willing to help cover the expenses. I intend to release everything for free and it should stay that way. However, the donation system is there for anyone, who has the will and possibility to help. Nothing more, nothing less. If you don't want to accept / give away a donation, fair enough. It remains your choice...
Re: List of Devs accepting Donations
Suppose if you was to sell items and they crashed systems you may be doing a fair few refunds...
and I agree with dex... If people would like to give donations that's their choice.

If you don't have a computer that can run my more recent work, sorry about that.mrknowitall wrote:Suppose if you was to sell items and they crashed systems you may be doing a fair few refunds...and I agree with dex... If people would like to give donations that's their choice.
Did you know that your FGW Class 158 WIP has a few Class 143 features on the body side and one of the location names on the sides is Bve4Trains Cardiff?

Re: List of Devs accepting Donations
Haa I don't run your work because I don't play the game, and I'm afraid I never noticed, ( that's a joke) did you notice your rotate function was the same as mine? We all can play the games you like to play Steve, some just wish to play it sober...... I think there is a description of yourself also near that location on the 158, I'll leave you to find it

Re: List of Devs accepting Donations
Family vists can be fairly exhausting and unnerving, so May passed unnoticed... Monthly budget for May '13 is spent delayed as follows:
CTS, BrnoBVE: 7.50€ each
CTS, BrnoBVE: 7.50€ each

Re: List of Devs accepting Donations
Thank you, Quork. At last I might have something to release tonight. :-)
Re: List of Devs accepting Donations
Oh... July & August. BrnoBVE 2/3, CTS 1/3 due to Dex' PC problems.

Re: List of Devs accepting Donations
Many thanks to Quork for setting a fine example and generously supporting the work of Celtictrainsim (and others). Much appreciated.
Re: List of Devs accepting Donations
Thank you, Quork, I was not expecting this...
It is a bit of shame that the problem I seem to be having cannot be solved by money. If you are interested, feel free to read the details on my website...

Re: List of Devs accepting Donations
I'm no expert in such things... Though I seem to remember a "thumb rule" that an AMD CPU with xMHz is slower than an Intel CPU with nominally the same speed. Though even if this real old rule applies, that wouldn't explain a difference that great... I'm wondering about .NET; is .NET 4.5 the one OpenBVE needs? Remember .NET can exist in a number of versions on one computer. Also try playing around with all graphics settings in OpenBVE, try playing around with different GPU drivers. I'm not sure ATM; Mono, which is used on other systems instead of .NET, schould be available for Windows as well I think. If it is, try using that one instead of "real" .NET?
And if nothing helps, install a 32bit-OS on your computer and try that. OpenBVE wouldn't be the first program to greatly lose efficiency on 64bit...

Re: List of Devs accepting Donations
Quite rightly, the .NET version is the last thing I haven´t tried yet. I think Michelle was mentioning version 4.0 (I think 4.5 has not even been released at time the sim development was stopped), so when I get back home, I will try to install 4.0 and we shall see if it helps. The CPU is not the issue here - it is running at about 30% of its capacity with my route. If it was the .NET version issue, I would probably be the happiest openBVE user in a while!
