New route begun
Seeing as no Taffy fecker has yet got off his/her arse and done it for Wales . . . . . .
(Yez lot wouldn't have any railways at all at all if it wasn't for the Scots and the Irish!!)
Re: New route begun
Lookin' good Gray.
I thought the English might have been involved in the Welsh railways?

Re: New route begun
@phil - The english were very good at taking the profits from the companies, seems that was their main involvement.
@ Mr K - All items in that video are graymac produced, except the train which is the widely available class 170. No third party items have been used at this stage apart from the OpenBVEsigs.
Steve Thomas is no doubt aware that I'm working on a Welsh themed route and it is likely that some of his Arriva stock would be most suitable for use on it, when it is ready. But as for joint enterprise, I think you may be too fond of conspiracy theories LOL This is a celtictrainsim project, plain and simple - the Welsh are, after all, a celtic people like the Scots and Irish (and Cornish) so it is consistent with the product range.

Re: New route begun
Once you have done this will you be making a Scottish route?
This makes sense as to achieve an equilibrium amongst the Celtic nations
(Only kidding BTW)

Re: New route begun
There are already Scottish routes, certainly some quite early ones, though I cannot say how the scene is going at the present time with our northern friends?? Velaro was working on an upgrade of Sandymill, don't know how that's going on, or if it still is??.
I think I will be quite some time on the Welsh job. Everything is starting from ground zero so there's a LOT of stuff to do.

There is Edinburgh to Aberdeen for Open, pretty realistic if you ask megraymac wrote:There are already Scottish routes, certainly some quite early ones, though I cannot say how the scene is going at the present time with our northern friends?? Having a day in the countryside! In Gwent.

Re: New route begun
Nice work Graham, you just can't keep a good Irishman down, can you? How far do you intend taking the line?

Re: New route begun
As far as me sanity holds out, which will be a short branch!!!!How far do you intend taking the line?
No, honestly, its starting out based on the Welsh Marches line from Newport to Hereford via Abergavenny. I'm not going to do an accurate representation of that because it wouldn't be all that interesting after Abergavenny from a driving point of view. So it will get a bit fictional, probably going up a valley from sort of Pontypool distance. It needs to be about a half hour + drive from Newport to be convincing.

Re: New route begun
Thanks, Jim.
Building continues, this time a station building, based on the one at Caerleon. Several like this are now in private ownership since stations closed. Caerleon's old station house is now a Vet's surgery! The rest of the station site is a small industrial estate. This was a bit tricky to make as the gables are assymetric, which makes for interesting position of vertices. The textures were photoshopped from screen-grabbed bits of google streetview - a fair bit of work is needed to make them useable.

Re: New route begun
It became very nice, the textures are great! One small question though - is it due to the light, or are some parts of the texture rather greenish and others rather red?

Still working on it.
And your work is looking great, as usual.

Re: New route begun
The varying stone colours are very realistic for a building of this period. In Victorian Britain only local stone would have been used, and much of it would have been transported by the railways. The stones would have been dressed, but the builders would not have paid any attention to varying hues or pigments. IMO they look far better than the modern all-red brick variety and add nostalgia and history to the local scene.

Re: New route begun
Thanks, Velaro.
@ Quork - its really because of the light, though not the model lighting, rather there are two differently lit source faces made up from the pictures of the building. The colour balance hasn't been matched but it hardly shows except on the white background here.
@ John, It's true there is quite a range of colours in the stone, being a natural material no two pieces are identical. Though this building was made from very small sample pics, consisting of two short bits of wall with a window in it, one gable end (with top missing) and a sample of roof tiles. That's all I used!!

Re: New route begun
Thank you for explaining!
@John - yes that's right and I'm perfectly aware of it. What I meant was the general colour shift visible in the faces, however Graham explained the reasons already.
@Gray again - do you remember my texture tutorial I created while building my gothic bricks? If you wish, I'd be more than happy to do the same with your station texture

Re: New route begun
OK, you want a challenge? As I'm in a good mood this evening, here's the two raw screengrabs that I used to make the whole thing. Now, build me a station house! Make your own mesh, either .csv if you prefer or .b3d which is what I use. And anyone else who wants to try it as a tutorial.
It took me about five hours to make this building from the start.

Re: New route begun
I was thinking about the textures only^^ But okay, I'll take the challenge! Surely won't be before the weekend though with christmas, exams (written was to-... well, yesterday when looking from here (GMT +2), first part of the practical will follow in 13 days) and other, non-railway life aspects coming in

Re: New route begun
Encountered semaphore signals at Abergavenny, problem being brsema-sigs are upper quadrant, inauthentic for Wales. So, had to make own animated sigs. That's best part of an afternoon gone!
