Hi everyone,

Just a quick post from me to say hello and ask a couple of questions relating to OpenBVE which I have just got into.

I've found a lot of UK routes (real and fictional) which require Steve Green's British Semaphores and Colour Signals mod but as Trainsimcentral has shut down I can't seem to find this anywhere even after using Google. Can anyone provide a valid link to the file or perhaps provide me with it so I can run the routes that require it.

My second question relates to the recommended default train for routes. If I choose to use a different train for the route, say for example the Birmingham Cross City from Redditch to New Street (from Railsimroutes) uses the Class 323 as its default train which is 3 cars in length but if I wanted to use say the class 153 sprinter railcar would I still have to stop at the 3 car stopping board or would the route recognise the different train length from the default?

1. The route should recognise the different train length. Try it and see.

if I wanted to use say the class 153 sprinter railcar would I still have to stop at the 3 car stopping board

It's not always as straightforward as it seems, Andrew. Depending on how the developer coded the route there may be only one single stop point defined, or there may be a range of train-length dependent stops. You can only be sure when you drive the route with your chosen train. Using Ballyfeckin as an example, the stop point is correct for the route's default train (the one that appears in the opening screen when the route is selected). NWM routes seem to have a range dependent of train length. First Brno uses a single stop point per station.

Cross-City South indeed has multiple stop points, just bear in mind that some platforms just happen to be too short.. (don't try a 12 car train on an average XCS platform)

A bit of topic Graymac but could you let me know how permissible speed is displayed on the BWR and IWR routes , is it the same as mainland UK or is it different in Ireland? And is there a keyboard assignment list for the Irish trains as they seem to have different ones to the standard UK trains I'm used to.

IE permanent speed restriction signs are octagonal yellow background with black numbering. UK ones are more like the road traffic signs.
The keyboard assignment is identical to UK trains unless it is one of the units equipped with the (very) basic CAWS, which isn't fully implemented. e.g. 2700.2 If driving a CAWS version the spacebar is used to respond to warning of change to upcoming adverse signal aspect. The CAWS plugin does not allow the use of wipers, engine start/stop and some other features provided by the more usual UKTS plugin.

Thought those were the speed signs, is it mph or kph? Would I he able to remove the CAWS plugin from the train folder so that I can run it similar to a UK train or would that 'break' the train file?

While we're on the subject of the IE routes you've made the route map shows some stations with light grey text, does this denote anything in particular? Also the Killavalley to Mill Street route 10-A says all stops but the timetable has no times for Turlough, do you you need to stop at this station on that route? Also the same route but version 10-B also says all stops in the description but Turlough is greyed out in the route map and gradient tabs, I'm assuming you don't stop there?

Sorry for the questions, just a newbie with lots of them lol

open bve says you do need to stop at turlough for 10-a but not 10-b

I know but what's confusing me is once 'in route' on the 10-A there is no arrival or departure time for Turlough on the timetable and no pass-through arrow either, I was wondering if its maybe a request stop.

this is a stop the times was put in but did not come thouth so do stop they and go after the dours chouse go to the next stop

Rep. of Ireland uses mph for rail speed limit signs but kmh for roads

Select a different train in the start dialogue if you don't want to use the basic CAWS version.

Those are less important stations

no arrival or departure time for Turlough on the timetable
Passenger timetables would display a time to indicate the departure being before the actual time a train would be likely to leave. Having no time specified in the station command prevents undue delay at minor halts, which might otherwise be the case. In game terms, it saves the player gaining late penalty points for no good reason.

Thanks for the responses graymac, much appreciated and again sorry for bothering you with so many questions!

Just completed my first run on 10-A using a 143 Pacer DMU and managed a 478/500 score, not bad for a rookie!
