Disable the Alarm System Empty Disable the Alarm System

Post by CaptED Wed Aug 29, 2012 4:21 pm

Hi Gang...

As a "Newbie" I am overwhelmed with all the alarms while trying to maintain Speed and Stops....

So I want to turn them off while I learn the Route....

I have read that rename the ATS.cfg to ATS_DISABLED.cfg (file is in Train Folder for those who do not know)

If I do this does it effect the Train, Scenery or Signals..?

Now admittly the ATS.cfg refers to a .DLL file ....

I am guessing this question would be answered by a Scenery Designer .... maybe not...

Thanks in Advance
Ed

Hi Ed - fortunately you don't have to do anything as drastic as this. Most of the UK OpenBve locomotives are equipped with AWS (Automated Warning System). to which I assume your "alarms" are referring to. To disable this function, press Keyboard Page Down. At the same time, a rectangular yellow light will appear "somewhere" in the Cab Controls layout (depending on the locomotive, of course), indicating that the AWS has been switched off. Remember though to switch it back on when you've finished your route learning.

Welcome on board, Ed. The great thing about this forum, and why I joined it over a year ago, is that there is always someone out there who is more than prepared to answer questions and share experiences. Someone once told me many years ago that the most stupid question is the one you don't ask. So you go right ahead and fire your questions at us.

Cheers,

John

Hi to all Readers....

To all the Newbies, ( I can not be alone..)

I have discovered that if you rename the "ats.cfg" to something like "DISABLED_ats.cfg" you may also kill some of the Animation ....

I downloaded the Class 104 Livery Pack ... 3 trains..
it is the one that you have to shift up and down...

http://bvetmd.org.uk/downloads.htm

I had so many buzzers going off I decided to rename the ats.cfg and it
turned out it effected the animation of the Gear shifter...

Had I read the text next to the Train Image it told me about this...
I simply did not understand...
============================================

This train uses the gear change facility of the OS_Ats plugin and can be driven with manual or automatic gear change.
Press '2' to switch between manual and automatic gear change.

Removing ats.cfg kills the plugin (os_ats) and because gear switching came from that plugin, it's now switching automatically. I'm not sure how animation is powered by train plugins, thought it was an entirely different API. Also, it's a first generation DMU... wouldn't the buzzers be coming from AWS? (just press insert every time you hear one)

Hi "Drag0nflamez"

Your assuming I hear the Buzzer ... I am almost deaf...
I will say some sounds are easier to hear than others...

I am not knowledgeable enough to know what exactly is triggering
the Buzzers...

Thanks

I have had to "tweak" the alarm sounds on my trains, since my hearing's fairly well buggered by heavy metal music in my mis-spent youth.

If a signal isn't green (so yellow, double yellow or red) the nearby AWS ramp is energized. Any train picking up the signal gets a warning and needs to press and then release the AWS reset button within 5 seconds, or the emergency brakes were applied. Prior to the introduction of TPWS it was also used as a speed restriction warning. You can also constantly spam the insert button and look at the AWS sunflower whether it lights up or not. If it does, consider starting to brake.

Disable the Alarm System Empty Re: Disable the Alarm System

Just a couple of small corrections on this topic.

Pressing Page Down will only isolate the TPWS system - not the AWS system. TPWS is a non-intrusive system, which means it doesn't have any audible or visual warnings which need acknowledging in normal operation - only if it judges you are going too fast and activates a brake application. AWS is the intrusive system. It requires acknowledgements in normal operation.

The other one is that even with the introduction of TPWS, AWS continues to be used to give advance warning of certain speed restrictions. Therefore, as well as looking out for the AWS magnet before yellow/double yellow/red signals (as DragOnFlamez describes) you also need to look out for it before speed restriction advance warning signs (the triangular ones with the yellow border).

Thanks to All....

Thanks for the info on both the AWS & TPWS..

How do you know what alarm system is active..?

I do assume the Route is the one that sets up the Alarm System..

All the Trains have there on alarm system "ats.cfg" and of course that calls in a DLL file ...

If the Route and the Train have different alarm systems is that what keeps
them from working together....

Thanks again...
Ed

British trains always carry AWS and TPWS, with some exceptions.

If the Route and the Train have different alarm systems is that what keeps them from working together...
Yep, if you were to run a Japanese train on an British route AWS/TPWS wouldn't work.

Not the "system" Ed, the SOUNDS. I had to find the alarm sounds in the train files and edit them to make them "deaf old git" friendly. The alarm systems remained unchanged.
I usually disable alarms from the drivers cab anyway, by pressing the key for TPWS "Temp Isolation Fault". That way I can let AI driver get on with the job and leave the cab for the views, without the train grinding to a halt for an unanswered driver awareness call.

Thanks to Both "Drag0nflamez" & "graymac"

First DragOn You just explained why I can not mix the Trains and run it on other lines...

Second Gray, First the "TPWS Isolation" from inside the Cab then letting the AI control the Train... That answers alot of my questions...
and is some of the reason I was Disabling ats.cfg...

It never occured to me to kill all from inside cab then go to AI...

Thanks for Helping a Newbie...

Disable the Alarm System Empty Re: Disable the Alarm System

Had anyone mentioned the Vigilance Reset feature? it's a way of making sure that the driver is still with the train and has not had a heart attack. it sounds like repeated beeps which have to be acknowledged.

How it works is if you were speeding up after a station, Coasting along a level section at speed or stationary at a station and the Traction Brake Controller (Combined Handle)
or Driver controls (on trains with separate handles) have not been moved for 1 minute then a constant beep would sound and has to be acknowledged, otherwise Full service brakes will apply and also means having to wait till the train stops before cancelling again.

You cannot edit this sort of thing, it just comes up

It is a function in the device section of the train.dat file and is editable in as much as it can be available or not:

▸ Options for Eb:
0: The EB device is not available.
1: The EB device is available.
This entry defines whether the EB device (alerter, or dead-man's vigilance device) is available or not. If available and the driver does not touch any of the control for 60 seconds, an alarm goes off which needs to be canceled within 5 seconds, or otherwise, an emergency brake application will be performed. If the ats.cfg is used, this entry may be without effect depending on the plugin.
