Re: new train sim
Sorry, but I have to disagree with that thought. Being outside the UK myself and claiming this forum is international, I find this thought a bit discriminating...
Re: new train sim
I want to see the answer to John's question, how would it differ?
How does @tonytrainsfree see this idea working??
If it is different architecture who will provide material for it, as new routes would be needed.
Unless the present ones worked with it, in which case what's the difference?
Without some detail explaining what's envisaged this can't be seriously considered.

Re: new train sim
It is being heard, but will not be listened to as it does not make any sense. A solely UK based simulator would not get as much people as a simulator with routes and content from all over the world...bear in mind there is plenty of British content for OpenBVE so I see no need for a new simulator, and as Derryck said it is an international forum for everyone with stuff from all around the world which people enjoy.
Re: new train sim
And anyway - you can use OpenBVE, and just install UK routes.

Re: new train sim
I don't see a valid point in this discussion - as someone correctly mentioned, why not install only British addons when someone does not want any other...
Re: new train sim
How about Rail3D http://www.rail3d.info/ ? I came into it a few weeks ago.
P.S. it requires setting non-unicode programs to use en-UK.

Re: new train sim
It is 3D. I found it some time ago, and it simulates a small network of lines using Rotterdam metro trains.Wongie2009 wrote:Nice, a healthy library of models there!
I also found this simulation program.. http://dipten.com/metrosimulator/
No given information, though.. but I found on their forum they're able to play the simulator in 3D, which I found surprising.

"Rail3D Features- General- Windows, DirectX."
Not cross-platform then. Needs proprietary software.

Oh, absolutely. Me and my new band called "Blasphemy" is thinking of doing a punk concert on the altar of the nearest church.
I think the law allows it. And then we might tour Russia and do the same!!!!

What happens if you try to put it within code tags?Stephen Cross wrote:Hi all,

Re: new train sim
Guys,
Has anyone had any luck with the Metro Simulator, the one set in Rotterdam? I have downloaded the file but there are no instructions with it as to how to install it, plenty about how to run it, but no visible or logical way of installing it, any ideas?

Looks as if you just unzip, then run the file 'Simulator Demo.exe'.

Re: new train sim
But then it says that certain .dll files are not installed. I have tried installing them but it still comes up with the same answer.

Re: new train sim
You don't say what dlls were missing.
I've just booted into Windows XP (I normally run Mageia Linux) and on trying to run the sim, an error showed that d3dx9_29.dll was missing. I searched for DirectX9 runtime, which gave me www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35.
I downloaded and installed DirectX9 from there, and the sim worked.
Perhaps simply copying the dll into your system isn't good enough- it has to be installed: maybe a registry thing.
