Hello

I wonder can we use normal map texture to get extra detail with little impact on performance.

The texture should had a prefix like texturename_normal.png

So in the object file maybe should write:

Load standarttexture.png
Load normalmaptexture_normal.png

The normal map should not get effected by any color and transparent command

sorry to confused you.

the normal map i mean in this post is a lighting trick that use a texture map to calculated how the light interact to a mesh or texture like a stainless steel without adding more geometry to the mesh.

see image below as example.

as you can see using normal map can make a big difference in terms of detail without adding more geometry.

openbve had a light properties like ambiet light, light direction and color. maybe someone who understand this topic can make it happen in the future.

although it still need more light properties like reflection and specular.

You might know the older term "bump map", Gothpaladinus …? It's a quite old and efficient technology.

Oh. OK, I now get it. Sorry for the misunderstanding. I thought the word "map" was intended to be used as an object (like Google Maps, city maps, making a map of a line, etcetera), not as a verb (to map something/somebody).
