Old version 1.4.3.0

Hi 

I have been away from BVE for a view years and now I am starting again. My version above loads alright and route selection and train selection is fine but when I click on start the screen goes black and reverts back to the Open BVE desktop shortcut. 
Any advice to solve this will be appreciated.

I am using Windows 10. I do not,at this time, want to update until I can get back into using the game.

'openBVE 1.4.3' has been no longer development. 
I ran 1.4.3 on Windows7.
So this is for Windows 7 or before.
The original developers are retired.
Because of no maintenance, 1.4.3 is may be not run Windows10.
And current developers are not looking to the 1.4.3.
So, I think may be that no one answer to you.

I think may be that are you concerned about compatibility?
'OpenBVE1.5.0' or later's compatibility is keep perfect from 1.4.3, lot of bug (for example back to the before station) is fixed and new features.
Recently, from 1.8.1.0 is 64bit version, but also release 32bit version.

Even the version is 64bit, most of data can run (of cource,  also for 1.4.3 with 32bit ATSDLL) can run.

Why do not you want run the newer version?
Please tell us.

Best answer I can immediately give you is that 1.4.3 seems to work for me on Windows 10.

If you can post the most recent log, which is likely to be located in C:\Users\ **YOU** \AppData\Roaming\OpenBVE\Settings\Log.txt we may be able to help further.

Ultimately though, 1.4.3 is the better part of 10 years old though.
The codebase has changed considerably in that timespan, and I'm not chasing obscure bugs I've probably already fixed

I've only recently got back into playing OpenBVE after a couple of years away and I would highly recommend upgrading to the most recent version or at least a version that has the new renderer available. The new renderer is a massive improvement, in my opinion, on the previous one and gone are the  flickering's, z fighting, zagged edges and such like for the most part. Also, if memory serves me correctly, certain routes used to struggle FPS wise on older versions but any route I'm after driving since I started playing OpenBVE again are running very smoothly.

For me openBVE 1.4.3 still works great and stable even with the latest major Windows 10 updates installed (build 20H2), I've just given it a trial. So you quite probably have not done the installation steps of openBVE completely. Have you installed Tao Framework OpenAL, OpenGL and SDL DLLs? If not, then that might be the problem. Try installing them and see if the program works.

Chris, there is no log available.Could it be that I am running this from an external drive?
My Windows 10, at the momement is version 1909. I haven't upgraded due to big problems I had with 2004.

If I do upgrade the game to a later version wiil it retain all my existing user data or will I have to start from scratch?

To me it seems a shame to have to go through all that just because of a problem with the game not starting when clicking on the start button.

They should both co-exist happily, and IIRC it'll retain all the settings too.
I *think* off the top of my head that the only thing that changes is the format of the saved controls file, and that got deliberately moved so they could co-exist without breaking each other.

Just install / extract to a different folder.

Thank you for the bug report. Do I have to do anything with the report as unfortunately I can't see anywhere that answers my questions I put on the problem report or am I missing something?
Maybe I should put the questions on the main forum as this is all new to me after being away for so long?
