Access denied after upgrade
Has anybody else had this problem on Windows 10?
Have just upgraded to version 1.7.2.1 which runs correctly the first time. But subsequent runs produce two error messages;
"C:\Program Files(x86)\openBVE\UserData\Settings\1.5.0\Controls.cfg" access denied
and
"C:\Program Files(x86)\openBVE\UserData\Settings\1.5.0\options.cfg" access denied
The route then works correctly except that on exit only the first run details can be brought up.
I've messed about with file permissions to try and get it to work properly to no avail, any ideas?
Cheers,
Loco

Re: Access denied after upgrade
Gud afternoon!
The same thing happens to me but nothing works. The Addon folder is not being reconigzed, tried many ways to make the routes and trains available in game.
The errors you mentioned (Programs Files) are shown when I close the sim. I got back to 1.5.3.7 version to keep playing wiht no problems.
If something new appears, I will try to download this new version again.

Re: Access denied after upgrade
Haven't you tried opening openBVE with administrative rights? Program Files (x86) is a classic example of a Windows folder which only allows you to write in with administrator permissions ONLY.
Re: Access denied after upgrade
Thank you! Just tried that and it works. The odd thing is I have not had to do this in previous versions, so something has changed...

Re: Access denied after upgrade
Will take a proper look tomorrow.
Should at least be able to improve it so that it will fallback a little more gracefully if it attempts to store in Program Files & fails.

Re: Access denied after upgrade
A workaround until this gets fixed: download the zip package, not the installer and put the contents of the zip in a folder somewhere within your directory. Run OpenBve.exe from that folder.
Re: Access denied after upgrade
I can't reproduce the problem here (recent Windows update or something maybe?), but will have a newer build out, hopefully next week which has the fallback implemented.
Re: Access denied after upgrade
I've been trying a few experiments. My data files (Routes / Trains etc) are all on a D: drive. If I put the openBVE application on the D: (instead of the default C: ) it all works fine, without the need for administrator rights. Seems a bit odd.
Thanks for the helpful comments.

That's what I would expect.
The Windows install drive is 'special' & Windows itself will seek to limit access to it.
What I don't understand / can't reproduce is why it's triggering for you now.
Will try and get the new build out tomorrow if I don't find anything broken. (More internal plumbing work mostly)
Re: Access denied after upgrade
Pushed build 1.7.2.2 just now.
This should solve the issue. If we attempt to store the configuration files in a non-writable directory, it'll now fall back to AppData instead.

Peple, good morning.
I've downloaded the brand new version (1.7.2.2) and it works normally now.
