Problem with .freeobj Rotation Empty Problem with .freeobj Rotation

Post by tf51d Fri May 01, 2020 12:40 am

I found a problem when rotating free objects in routes with V1.7.1.x+ that works fine in all versions 1.7.0.3 and lower. It seems OpenBVE will misplace objects if rotated exactly 180 degrees If it is rotated even a fraction off 180, then it places correctly Here's an example

With Rotation exactly 180

325,.railtype 0;503,.freeobj 0;165;2;-10,.freeobj 0;165;4;-10,.freeobj 2;221;0;0;180,.railtype 0;503,.railtype 2;504

With Rotation 180.001

325,.railtype 0;503,.freeobj 0;165;2;-10,.freeobj 0;165;4;-10,.freeobj 2;221;0;0;180.001,.railtype 0;503,.railtype 2;504

I can't reproduce this, and if this was as simple as it looks, I would suspect I'd have had considerably more reports than that.

Some questions:
* Is object 221 animated or static?
* Any rotate, translate etc. commands within object 221?
* Is rail 2 exactly paralell to rail 0 in both the 300m and 325m blocks, or does it move?

Ideally, I need a reproduction I can see and play with.

I agree this seems to be a rather unique situation. Looking at the object being placed, it appears to been created with an auto track generator called "Switch" written back in 2002, (I guess similar to TrackGen) which I just got a hold of, and it's so old it won't even run anymore on Win 10 or any compatibility modes. This is the only case I've seen of this so far, so since it's easily correctable with no ill affects, I think it is what it is, and don't need to go any further with this unless it becomes more of a problem, which so far it isn't.

I've got Switch here, will try that tomorrow.

My suspicion would be there's a typo somewhere in your routefile, which is getting mis-parsed somewhere, but that's only a guess....

I can't even get Switch to run on my system. There were actually 2  cases of this on the same route, but both with free objects autogenned by Switch and both corrected by just adding a fraction to the rotation. Like I said though, I haven't seen this anywhere else, and seems to be unique to objects created by this autogen program. So I'll include the object if you want to look at it, looks like a rather complex mesh. Other than that I don't think it's worth your time to correct an issue which may have been created 18 years ago, unless it becomes more of a bigger issue, but this one seems isolated and correctable! Thanks
