Switch Empty Switch

Post by ap1991 Mon Jan 14, 2019 3:23 pm

Some years ago I remember having a program called Switch that was used to create track and pointwork, does anyone know if this is still available anywhere?

The reason I ask is I want to create a double slip switch and I don't think I can do that using track gen...

Thanks.

As far as I remember Switch was a DOS based program, not sure if it would work on any OS later than winXP??
I liked "Switch", the main reason I stopped using it was my requirement for 1600mm gauge trackwork. TrackGen won't produce a double slip directly, you might be able to use "bits" from composite switches and cobble them together, with a bit of hand-coding, but I never tried it myself.

Do you want an "English" or a "Baeseler" double slip? If you'd provide me with the parametres required, I could model one in Blender and send it to you so you can texture it yourself. Would take a couple of days till I have enough time, but I guess time isn't of the essence here?

I know this question was asked a long time ago, but I'll still reply as I have the answer.

I have Switch 1.5 in my OneDrive here: https://1drv.ms/f/s!AmJqmjK22OH-bIRFg1-5HeTFZKM

It runs on Windows 7, but not on Windows 10. Maybe a virtual machine can help, that's how I use it.

Do you have 64 bit Windows 7? It might not work on it, only on 32 bit Win 7.

The best solution is to set up a virtual machine using for example VMware or Virtualbox, install Win XP in it, and run Switch there.

DOSBox is far easier than messing around with virtual machines.
Extract to C:\switch
Open DOSBox (will give you a lovely command prompt Very Happy )
Code:
mount d: c:\switch
d:
switch15

Output appears exactly as normal.

(64-bit 7, 8, 10 etc. will not work, they lack the 16-but NTVDM)
