I've noticed the rate of opening/closing ir linked to the duration of the drcls sound file.

There is a way. Ad1992 did it in his door animations in the 96 stock. I’ve been testing a lot out and I think it’s the idea that the speed of each door is different. I’m not sure of the exact mechanics but I’ve been playing around with the animation code of the 1996 stock to find out the exact code

Actually, I’ve realised that it’s not the speed of the doors it’s the delay in which each door is held back for before it begins its closing animation

Yes, but each door model must be a single door and not a chain of doors put together if you know what I mean.

There is. But each door.csv file must represent a single door. You need to change the delay time for each door in its closing animation  if you want to achieve that then you need to make the delay time for each door different

Correct.

I presume this is to mimic BVE2 / BVE4 behaviour.

Interestingly, the code also has a commented out section which generates a random open / close duration for each door.
