SOUTHERN: Blighton-Treston Park (simulation)
Very nice simulation with splendid graphics BUT I have two problems with it:
1) In some places on the route there are AWS warnings which are not cancelled by tapping the 'insert' key alone. By trial and error I have somehow managed to cancel these warnings by tapping 'insert' key, 'space key', 'insert' key again, and sometimes repeating 'space key'. This is probably totally incorrect but, in the absence of any manual on this route, I'm at a loss as to what I should do. I should point out that the AWS warning appears to be a double warning as the first 'insert' key application cancels the first warning but the sound continues until I fiddle (!) around with the other keys; a failure to deal with this leads to a complete stoppage and the customary 60 seconds delay before any movement is possible. I have no idea why this happens in some parts of the route and I have never come across this in other simulations so any comments or advice would be welcome;
2) There is a stop called 'Station Five' prior to Hattle Station on the route which is located within a tunnel which is supposed to be serviced but for what reason I have no idea. It can be passed very easily without you realising it as you wouldn't know it was there; only when you get a message telling you you should have stopped there do you have any indication of your mistake (apart from the usual vertical bar which shows where you should stop). What is the point of the stop? Below is a screenshot of this 'ghostly' station.
Moderative edit: Please refrain from writing everything in bold. Thanks, Quork

Re: SOUTHERN: Blighton-Treston Park (simulation)
I think due to it being an old route the plugins may not be up to date with the current simulation.
Regarding Station 5 I believe that it was supposed to be a place where a red light would occur but due to there being no signal it seems that the developer may have forgotten either to remove the station or to add the stop signal. In my version I managed to delete the stop marker meaning that you do not need to stop there. This can be done by finding the station name in the .sta command in the csv file and then deleting the .stop command from the csv file.

IIRC the warnings here aren't actually cancelable as-such, but are rather fixed sound effects.
BVE2 never supported AWS at all. Some of the older UK trains use a bodge based on ATC / ATP, but I dunno the technical details for that off the top of my head.
Would have to go digging innsome very old notes

So I take it that what I have described in my original post is not supposed to happen and that there is no fix at the moment. Oh well, carry on regardless! Thanks for your comments.
Terry
P.S: Apologies to Quork for writing in bold, always thought this style made for easier reading! Why have this option?

Yupp, that's the problem with very old addons.
Ad bold: The option to write in bold is to emphasise stuff, not to make the whole text bold.

Re: SOUTHERN: Blighton-Treston Park (simulation)
Having checked the coding, the AWS bells are fixed in this particular set of routefiles.
This means that they're not user-cancelable, and will trigger regardless of the signal aspect.
I haven't got any immediate answers as to a 'fix'- it's working exactly as designed at the minute.
I suppose I could detect the sound when parsing the route & automatically insert a transponder instead so that things work as per the modern equivalents, but I'm by no means sure that's desirable.

Without wishing to be pedantic but there are other ways to emphasise what you want to highlight in written text. I have always used 'bold' text in my correspondence, not for emphasis, but because the print looks clearer and is easier for those of us whose eyesight is not good as it once was. However, I will bow to your request in the future.Quork wrote:Yupp, that's the problem with very old addons.

Kindest regards,

Oh dear, why do I pick on the most awkward simulations to try but thanks for your help anyway.leezer3 wrote:Having checked the coding, the AWS bells are fixed in this particular set of routefiles.

Did you try Birmingham - X-City South? I believe you might find it to your pleasing!
Ad bold: For most people, bold doesn't look better. Those with bad eyesight have their own options like zooming, setting minimum text size in the browser settings, using high-contrast-plugins etc. etc. etc.

Ad bold: I was referring to MY eyesight!

Re: SOUTHERN: Blighton-Treston Park (simulation)
Are you using Firefox? If so: Go to "Tools" in the menu bar. Go to "options". In "general", there's a section "language and appearance" with a subsection "fonts and colours". Click on "advanced" in there. There's an option called "minimum font size", which will probably be set to "none". Try selecting 16, and if that's too small, try 20. I think it'll be what you're looking for! There are more possibilities of course, including specialised plugins, but for that I'd refer you to the Firefox support forums.
