Fresh new look & Forum rules update
Hello everyone,
as you must have noticed (erm, you should have ), the forum has been given a brand new look. I have not gone for anything extravagant as it would have not been accepted anyway, but I think this might be the step in the right direction. There is a couple of glitches which need to be fixed, but I think I can manage that in the upcoming days. These things include the horizontal navigation bar, links and knowledge portal and also the forum logo. Any suggestions are welcome!
Also, the forum rules have been updated and simplified. Re: Fresh new look & Forum rules update
Have you ever heard the advice, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!" ???
The default serif font appearing now (looks like Times New Roman, or aclose relation) is not as clearly readable as the sans serif font previously used. You could do a lot worse than use Verdana, which is generally intended to be web-friendly.
Not at all impressed with any of these cosmetic changes, which greatly impair the useability of the site.

Yes I have. Which Serif font do you mean? The default font I am using now is actually Verdana's brother... or maybe sister? I guess nobody knows...
Re: Fresh new look & Forum rules update
I'm seeing what looks like Times New Roman (or a close relation) and certainly not a brother or even distant cousin of Verdana. That's almost certainly because the font you picked isn't on my system, therefore the browser defaults to Times. Verdana is a Windows system font, which is why it is a good choice - it ensures 99% of users will view the site in the way it is intended to be seen.
Other suitable fonts might be Arial, Swiss, Helvetica . . . not everyone will have the last two.

Oh right, in that case you do see Garamond, which is a backup font and is indeed a relative of Times new Roman. Does it look bad to you?
Thank you for the tip. I am open to suggestions, so if you have anything that irritates you, feel free to irritate me.

The font and the general layout to me is not as readable as before which I did like. I don't particularly like the new style mainly because everything seems a bit too big and the font as I mentioned. I think ease of use and "the simpler the better" is important.

@Matt: Well, according to my research, Times New Roman and Arial should be amongst the best readable fonts... is the font size too much for you?
Re: Fresh new look & Forum rules update
As for size it's not the font size but the new layout. The old font was easier to read than what you have at the moment. I mainly use Arial, Verdana, Helvetica, Calibri and Courier New. I generally don't use Times New Roman.

OK, then I understand. I can take a look at the font, that is not a problem. As for the forum size, it is adaptive. It takes 95% of your screen size and then divides it to the components. The old design was actually set the same way.
Re: Fresh new look & Forum rules update
Thanks. As for it seeming bigger it probably because the style is not as readable as before. Though the size looks about the same size as before.

How about this Verdana then?
Although the former font looked more aestethic to me.

Yes, that looks all right and easy to read. I notice many sites over here use Arial.

Re: Fresh new look & Forum rules update
Good. Well, so far the sites are sort of living on their own, I am now trying to give them the same look so that they actually look like they belong to the same family... Because of that the portals will be temporarily unavailable in the near future. Gotta go now, any more suggestions, feel free to leave them here.
