Current contest (July 2014) Empty Current contest (July 2014)

The current regular contest will alway be sticked here and, after completion, converted to a normal thread. Of course contests started by others will as well be sticked to the top by me for as long as they go!

The July 2014 contest:

Type: Route development
Duration: 1 month (end of submissions 31. July)
Type of submission: Screenshot or, if finished, route file
Topic: Build a sports centre in your route, near the tracks. Size and style are free and should fit the general period and atmosphere of your route. Showcasing regional sports (e.g. a cricket field for England or a boules sandbox for France) is a nice touch, but no must.
Jury: Quork
Prize: 10€

The route with the realised topic must not yet be released in the submitted state. Creating an update for an existing route, with the update containing the contest topic, however is permissible as an entry.

The route or route update must be planned for public, free release.

Take this as an example. Very Happy  It is a pre-existing object (before the contest was announced), so it is not going to participate in the contest.
The ObjectViewer does kinda screw up the bent lines, but they look OK in the route. Laughing

In an objects contest this would be an entry. For the route contest, I miss life on the field, and it being integrated into the context: Street, bus stop, parking lot etc. Smile So as long as you don't have that ready, I would accept it as a submission =) Or let's say - if it wasn't published till now. Yeah, I think that's the best solution... I'll add this at the top. The route must a) not be released yet in this state (updates for an existing route are absolutely permissible!) and b) must be planned for public, free release

Well, the football pitch will be included in the next release of my route, and it has already been posted before in the thread mapping the progress of my route. Still, this was not intended as a submission, rather an inspiration for others.

Sports grounds to routes? Been there, done that - only it isn't always TOO obvious. Examples pictured are Blackrock Racecourse, local GAA club fields near Stonyford and Williamstown, The GAA ground at Milltown and the Charlestown GAA ground next to the station (in the IWR route, the first I did back in 2010).

Of course, if I actually LIKED sport I might have made it a lot more obvious. I hate competitive games, especially football!  scratch

In terms of quality, your football ground is good work, Dex, very nice indeed. As long as I don't have to sit there for 90 minutes watching 22 idiots kicking a pig's bladder around the grass  cheers

You don't like competitive sports? Me neither =D But a fitness trail through a park (you know - pull-up bars, balancing rods and other outdoor sports equipment - something like that http://www.wandern-saechsische-schweiz.de/images/Trimm-Dich-Pfad_Naherholungsgebiet_Forellenschaenke_klein.JPG or that http://www.pelle-unterwegs.de/weblog/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/110719-Schwarzachklamm-015-TrimmDich.jpg ) also is a sports ground. The same goes for public swimming pools (please observe possible impact on age-approval of your route Laughing), outdoor chess (chess is classified as sport! Dunno why - but since it is, it counts), and, alas, motor "sports". Oh, and bike parks, skating parcours etc. etc. - there are so many possibilities =D I'd be happy to see submissions by the two of you^^

Reminds me I have also put together a horse training ground some time ago. Maybe horses will not be hated by Sir graymac? Very Happy
Come to think of it, the rectangle with sand can easily be transformed into a petanque battlefield. Smile
The only problem is that since these objects are now a part of the route, the are not set up properly to be standalone units (due to texture links)

OK, I do have something in my mind - it is just a case of if I have enough time to make it. It is something I haven't shown anywhere yet, though. I think one of the rules is to hve the object freely available after it is created, so once done, it will be available at brnobve.eu. Quork is to decide if it is worth the contest, though. Smile
