Re: A little project started
The seats are actually full 3D and there IS a truckload of faces, Only the upholstered faces and seat backs have textures however. Transparency is used for the curvature on the backrest tops and for the (2D) grab-handles. The side faces are plain. All meshes use emissivecolor as the interior doesn't darken in tunnels etc. Surprisingly the observed frame rates are comparable in performance to non-fitted interiors - I would have expected some noticeable deterioration.
Another point which has been remarked on by one who has tried the train concerns the ride qualities as viewed from the interior. The first car is a smooth ride, comparable to the cab itself. But if the F2 camera is shifted to the rear car the increase in yaw and pitch is very marked. Out of curiosity on having this reported back to me, I tried the ride in a three car unit as well. The further back you sit, the more likely you will do a technicolor yawn with your breakfast! Be warned!

That's normal, as the F2-viewpoint is connected to the first car.

Obviously the further back you sit, the more carriages in front of you have to be rendered (even though you don't see them). Simple as that.
Re: A little project started
The panel2 daytime image is ready. A copy will be made next and "night-lit". Then the controls can be tackled. Not so difficult as only one brake gauge is visible. The "basic" CAWS plug-in by Odakyufan is being used, so no wipers will work, therefore no raindrops required.
Re: A little project started
I know commuter trains normally have doors further down the carriage but these seem closer to the carriage ends than say a turbostar. probably just me.
P.S. cab looks nice!

The controls are installed. It's been out on the tracks and is most enjoyable to drive. Some functions are not supported because of basic nature of the plug-in. It is better to sacrifice the wipers, moving horn lever and some other minor things and not have to put up with an incorrect safety system. Hopefully a more comprehensive plug in may be developed in time. I am grateful to Odakyufan for making the effort to provide this level of authenticity.
Re: A little project started
Very nice! I see several transparency glitches, are you planning to correct those yet?

Re: A little project started
Yepp there are... It is a 2D panel and of course it has transparencies, though digital ones. And the glitches are blue borders around several elements, which are layered onto the panel itself (knobs etc.) and on some borders between "train" and "window", also along the radio-earphone cable. Also, the black instrument panel's border has holes which do not seem to be supposed to be there.
The blue "aura" problem is usually due to having "soft-edged" or "antialiased" selections while painting the area supposed to be transparent with the transparency key colour, leading to thin stripes of a colour close to, but not exactly the transparency key colour (which, obviously, is blue here), which thus are not made transparent by the 3D program.

Re: A little project started
Looks like a good start (Can it still be called that? Looks pretty advanced to me!) but is it possible on the exterior to make the bottom section more curved so it's not like this \ by adding a couple more faces? I know it'll be a bit of work but it'll look 1000x times better
Just a suggestion...
Cheers,
Chris

Don't worry, @Quork, I'll sort it all out about the same time you put the finishing touches to your ICE train. (I think I made the new 22000 AND finished off a few km of route while we've been waiting for that)
Re: A little project started
I sense this is going to turn into "he stepped into my sand cake, mom!"

Well, according to the English the shovel is very important to the Irish. Although "stirring it" is where one attempts to provoke a party who is not involved in an argument, which was what you did unnecessarily to Mr Thomas earlier. A barbed or cryptic reply to a direct comment is not the same as stirring.
Re: A little project started
I gave the gentleman in question a direct contact link you was provoking quork into biting the baited line you threw Mr Thomas can comment, after all he is a registered user but the 'peep hole' type user
