Route Checker

Post by Gudbrandr on Sun Jan 15, 2017 4:49 pm

Hello,

A little history. Back in 2009 I discovered BVE and started playing with routes etc., trying to fix the errors I encountered and so on. After realising how difficult is was to manually keep track of rails, poles, etc. in route files, I wrote a tool which I called Route Checker, since that's what it does, based on Route Viewer. I think I announced it on trainsim.com and it lived for a while on a free web site I had at the time, until that died. Life got busier and I didn't look at it for some time.

To the present. I have refreshed Route Checker using the current code base and put it on GitHub https://github.com/Gudbrandr/RouteChecker , so it won't disappear again. I've also provided some detailed descriptions of how to use it here https://gudbrandr.github.io/RouteChecker including a full conversion of the US Desert Freight route to CSV format. I've found it very useful as a tool for speeding up the process of debugging routes. I hope others find it helpful, too. I have made it public domain, in the spirit of giving something back to the community and in appreciation of the efforts put in by the developers and designers for our benefit.

I have ideas about making recovered and converted routes available somewhere online for everyone's benefit. Hopefully others will join in and help grow the collection of routes. I would even like to think that Route Checker might become part of the OpenBVE distribution in due course. Therefore, constructive feedback is welcome. Comments, suggestions, your experience with it are all useful. Let me know what you think.

Cheers.

EDIT: As a new user I can't post external links. I'll fix the links when I can. Until then, remove the brackets.
Mod edit: Links fixed Wink

Sounds like a useful application. Now that you have a website for it maybe a precompiled binary would prove useful. At least for such lazy people like me. Smile

Thanks, I see now. Maybe you could add a link to the binary on the website.

This needs one of my current builds to run correctly. The error message you're seeing is because you've got Michelle's last build installed.
(I've made various changes to the API which this relies upon)

hello there,

I got an error as I am trying to launch the app :

Are there any possible explanations to this? Thanks a lot!

Besides, I am currently trying to merge two routes together as one route, but they have the same [numbers] for railtype, freeobj and walls etc. I would like to have the effect that when I am editing the [number] below "With Structure", all the related [numbers] below "With Track" can automatically change to what I just edit. Is RouteChecker capable with this?

Thank you!

Route Checker will not renumber things.

This is an (unfinished) toolbox app which I wrote to do just that amongst other things:
http://vps.bvecornwall.co.uk/stuff/DTBeta.zip

Working features:

  • Various conversions between BVE and other units
  • Renumbers walls, objects etc.
  • Moves routes
  • Attempts to standardize cant to the RSG algorithm

To merge two routes, you'd want to renumber all the objects, walls etc. from one route into a unique range (This only handles one object at a time, sorry.....), and then move the track positions to suit.

Wait is there any way to create faces with reflection? Like so that the background is reflected in the train body or in a mirror type object

That's exactly the tool that I am looking for! Great Thanks!

I think none of any faces could do it, but i did it successfully to my content as an animated window objects. What you should do is separate the windows object from train and use the following commands:

[object]
states = (windows object)
texturesiftXfunction = *use wheel rotation command and adjust the value by yourself*

if you want an example, look for mine at http://satatsurailway.esy.es/download/buskpt.html

Oh and another thing... you can use this trick for adding a moving shadow too (applied at my coach in the trainpack http://satatsurailway.esy.es/download/cc203inka.html )
